XTown 300i ABS Trouble
« on: May 20, 2020, 02:58:16 PM »
My 2019 XTown 300i after re-installing front wheel after tire change----ABS light stays on. I figure problem in clearance between pick up and contact wheel.  Tire is standard size, Heidenau.

I ordered new pickup cable---which I thought would be $20, but instead $49----after I get this problem worked out, dealer will warranty----dealer's shop is backed up a month or so----I bought my bike to ride---no front ABS ok for now.  Two wheel front ABS is there only to make up for lack of rider skill or experience anyway.

ABS is Bosch---German stuff can be junk!!  $2300 part on my wife's Genesis, Continental ABS, crapped out at about 80,000 miles----struggle to get Hyundai to warranty and pay up. She now has leased Audi Q5---which I view as 2 and a half ton, German-Mexican truck----in its first 3 weeks in service, if spent 2 weeks in shop---electric troubles!!  Junk in my book.

On wheel removal, I had to use breaker bar to get axle out----they must have overtightened axle to get squish to gain clearance on ABS contact!

Not the first time I've read of this issue.
Before I remove my ABS'ed front wheel on the Piaggio - I'm going to take a couple photos, sharpie the nut position and take some measurements - then cross my fingers for the installation.

We can agree to strongly disagree on ABS here on this forum.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Think I have ABS problem on my XTown 300i figured out.  On mounting new Heidenau Tire and seating bead, hose on my compressor blew out.

Put tire and wheel in car, went out to buy new hose, but would be passing by Cycle Gear (where they know me) and knowing they have AIR------here is problem, he put wheel on tire machine disk side down because 90 degree valve stem faces other way----first charge of air, bead popped.

Took tire home, bought new compressor hose, let air out to install "Ride On", put wheel back on, took test ride.  ABS light came on in usual way and went out as it all ways does at bottom of my driveway....and came back on after a few blocks.

Solution: ABS Pick UP Disk got bent in on tire machine, when wheel installed on bike, too much clearance on Pick Up. I have bent it out, crudely, bringing contact distance back to where it works....and light stays out.  Long test ride today to see if light stay out and front ABS functions.

Have it now so ABS lite goes out.  Now  little fine tuning on the pick up disk---or order a new one.

Have disk "bent and adjusted"  contact works---light goes out.  Real professional fix would be new contact disk---will price one next time I go to dealer.
