Grinding/Rattling noise coming from rear of 2016 UXV450i

There seems to be a grinding/rattling in the rear end of my 2016 UXV450i. I just bought this used from a dealer. It happens when I am slowing down and have let off throttle. I am not pressing brake either. I checked differential fluid and it’s full. I read a discussion forum that grinding is normal and has to do with CVT transmission and when the clutches expand and contract.  But I wanted more opinions. Anyone else experiencing this? Is it normal?

The only noise that you describe has historically come from the rear brake assembly. Normally it happens when the brakes are applied as the caliper twists and torques. It can happen on deceleration only and is amplified when the brakes are applied. I would also check the CV joints and half shafts. The shifting that you have become used to is due to the fact that kymco uses a cable in which the inner cable is undersized causing the cable to bend and torque. Also can be caused by the improper adjustment of the shift linkage.

I would guess the rear brake assembly also, I know mine gets really noisy after riding in sand or fine crushed stone.  I find flushing the assembly with a hose with a high pressure nozzle usually stops or slows down the grinding until the crud builds back up again. From my reading this is a common issue on utv's with similiar rear brake systems.
I would still do a thorough check of the other components mentioned previously just to be sure.  Once I get mine cleaned out, it stays quiet while riding in my yard or on the road, but it does get noisy quickly when I get offroad into gravel, sand or other course materials.  Had my rear brake sieze up once, by debris getting into emergency brake cable connection at the rear, took a while to get that freed up!
