2012 UXV 500i...where is the starter solenoid located?

Just replaced the ignition switch because the old one froze up and I could not turn the engine off.  I could not find a replacement in the US, so shipping time from Taiwan was more than a month.  I needed to use the rig, so I had to make some on-site modifications.  But, that is not why I am posting.  The new ignition is installed. Recharged the battery. When I press the brake and turn the key, all the proper lights ignite, the fuel pump operates but I get no reaction when I try to start it. Nothing...no clicks, just no reaction. To add injury to insult, I can't locate the starter solenoid or the starter.  Can someone give me a clue?  A response would be greatly appreciated.  Ken

I have the same rig as you but I have no idea where that relay is! But here is what I would do if I had a burning desire to find that relay:
1. Remove whatever it takes to find the starter.
2. Find the fat wire on the starter and follow it to wherever the other end goes.
3. The thing on the end of that wire is the starter relay!

Starter Solenoid is likely in the battery box compartment under the hood. Pull the seats and engine cover and have a look around the motor, I'm sure you'll find the starter. Been a bit since I've been into a 500 so going off memory.

Souza is right! In the battery box. Well, the original location of the battery. See the little green wire? Solenoid/start relay right under that.
 See the cheapo lawn & garden battery in the mostly empty whatever box? That solves cold weather starting for the most part. Cheapo at 30 bucks at Wally Mart!

Might want to check your batteries, my 18ah utv battery has more rated power than that lawn mower battery. About 90 bucks but 5 yrs and going strong. Sealed no leak issues and runs all my accessories.

Thank you for your replies.  I did downloaded the service manual as suggested by Stig.  And, I learned that there is no starter solenoid, but, there is a starter relay which is located next to the battery.  I tested it for continuity and there was none.  I ordered a replacement starter relay through Suzie's Moped on San Juan Island, WA and it arrived this past Friday.  It was an easy replacement and VOILA the bugger started!  Now my neighbors don't laugh and point as they drive by my idle orange 500i.  Our pleasures on Stuart Island these days are simple...

Glad to hear it is fixed! Yes, you are right about the starter RELAY terminology.
