If you could have any scooter of choice?
« on: May 25, 2020, 11:23:26 PM »
Price not being a consideration what scooter would you purchase?  I would like a BMW C-650 or a Aprilia SRV 850.   A Kymco is a bargin comparatively speaking.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Price not being an issue, and maintenance cost not being an issue, I like the burgman 650 abs standard. My dream all-round scoot is the Like 300i however.

Tough to say, but I'd like to investigate the Honda SH300I...or perhaps say to heck with it and nab the (currently) last year of the Burgman 650.
Since the SH ain't around and there's nothing similar, the latter is more likely.

Yeah, I'd be tempted by the 550 too.  We can all dream!  Realistically as the 550 is over £9K in the UK, my more likely next mount will be the Xciting 400i.  (A much more affordable £5.6K)  40% cheaper, but I bet it isn't 40% down on performance!  (For the pedants - yes, I know it's 38%!)

I tried to find a leftover 2014 Myroad 700i.  Kymco didn't bring the 550 to the US shores.

On 11th new maxi scooter since 1990----since I ride a lot and dealer net is important----my current Kymco Xtown 300i is fine, dealer net a little weak.   Best to ride, Yamaha TMAX=fun, sold mine as I expected high maint. costs as miles piled up.  Nothing in US market makes me dream at this point.   Loved Honda Helix, had 4 new ones, 175,000 total miles, easy drive belt change, air management could have been better.

On scooters, always liked Vespa, had 4----today very expensive, small dealer net, 8,000 mile belt change, reliable?? But with money---front luggage rack, rear rack(box if necessary), small gas can on front floor, regular use seat has to be opened to get to gas cap(real pain with bag on passenger seat), small fuel capacity, AND best feature of Vespa scooter CAN provide BUFFET free ride with right windshield and right height of shield-------In other words for the $8-9000 out the door to get into one, they can provide a comfortable long tour machine.

As daily rider since 1955 (most of my miles have been on motorcycles) today's scooters are not very practical----nice when they had easy to remove wheels (interchange able), spare tires, maybe decent windshields----today only BMW (Kymco engine?) has rear wheel you can get off without exhaust system removal!

John G- I believe your correct on BMW using a Kymco built 650 and 400 in their scooters.  My BMW 650 GS  uses a Kymco built Rotex engine.  Don't know if Kymco still builds stuff for Honda.

Growing up I always rode Yamaha's and never had a issue with any of the several bikes I owned.

the only scooters I've ever ridden are a 1980 Honda Express (old girlfriend's scooter, back in the day) and my current People S 200.

I've always been fascinated by the Vespas...especially the bigger engined ones..the GTS300. I like the history of Vespa, the metal bodies..the mystique. Would love to ride one, sometime.

Probably won't buy another scooter until I'm done with my motorcycle riding...so who knows what scooters will be available in another 10-20 years?
2010 People S200 - sold after 8 wonderful years!
2014 Ninja 300
1996 Honda Helix
1984 Honda Nighthawk 650

I like the small scoots for their practicality for affordable transport but the maxi scoots are a bit pricey. I would be looking at a motorcycle for my next bike. Maybe a previous gen 2006-7 ninja 250.
