Started driving when I was 11 (one time, grandmother's wide track Pontiac )....
Then rode Honda bikes.
Actually learned to drive in the Vietnam war.
A beat up, red-lined 3/4 ton truck - when I volunteered to make the mail run between our Evac Hosp and the airstrip, during my final 2 weeks In-Country. Didn't let on that I didn't know what I was doing.
The airstrip had cold Cokes!! in a cooler.
Had one crash in first 100 meters....then got it sorted, pretty much.
Unsecured roads... (supposedly cleared of mines every night by the always humorous/hapless ARVN troops)
So I was advised to try to outrun the odd snipers and the mines by driving like a B.O.O.Hell!
sorry, what was the question again?
