Grinding noise, died and now power now
« on: June 06, 2020, 10:20:31 AM »
Hi all,

My 2002 Like 200i with 6k km, all serviced and ran with no issues.

Today at the end of a c. 10 mile trip with my girlfriend, it started making whining noise from the engine side, which became increasingly higher pitched...till the engine died and so did the power.

Now no power, even when I turn the ignition key. The battery is obviously fine as wasn' related to it. No smoke / obviously weird smells.

Would appreciate your input on it!

Welcome to the forum!
Check the oil level?
Look at right side of engine....black plastic cover in proper place...nothing sucked into the white plastic  fan?
Probably a very good idea to remove seat/seat-bucket assembly and have a look down into engine area if all above checks out OK.
With your symptoms you should be able to see something amiss.
IF all looks OK, did your belt break and lock up the drive....or one of the CVT nuts come loose?

So after checking everything, it turned out that my starter was constantly on - hence creating the noise and draining the battery.

Ordered a new starter relay which hopefully, would fix the issue.
