Xtown 125/300, 4000/2000km between oil change????
« on: June 07, 2020, 08:00:40 AM »
I see in the user manual that the oilchange interval on the Xtown125 is 4000km but on the Xtown300 it is only 2000km??
Can this really be true?

My XT300i handbook recommends oil changes every 2,000 miles or 3,000 kms or 3 months! This maybe different here in the UK though as we get the EURO4 emissions model?  On time alone (9 months and rising), I’m well overdue, but I’ll risk it.

My 2019 Xtown 300 has no oil filter---I change oil in local use every 1200-2000 miles.   On trip of 3-400 mile days I extend the interval----In US, WalMart house brand oil works fine, right price.  I have over 500,000 experience with it, both air cooled and water cooled---10-40

I’ve only done c900 miles since September and 600 mile service owing to lockdown, but I reckon an oil change is imminent!

I also have the EURO4 version so this is a bit strange.

Yep.  Can't explain that.

I suspect the lack of a usual oil filter means that you will need to change the oil out more frequently and the received wisdom on here in such cases seems to be every 1,000 miles.  I'm happy to go with that.

Short trips are harder on oil then extended rides as well. Condensation can build up if the bike doesn't get up to temp as well. Because of this I usually just change the oil once a year even though I might not drive a thousand miles. They way I look at it clean oil is cheap insurance.

I have heard synthetic takes a little while to break in. Would conventional make sense for short change intervals? I haven't figured this oil thing out yet.

Myth. Conventional oil would be just fine. Today's oil is high quality. The difference between synthetic is it holds up better in extream  heat.

Regradless of what you use dirty oil can act as a abrasive which can cause premature ware.

I see, thanks. Are there any oil filters that work with the gy6 oil plugs?
