33,500 miles of scooter riding after 8 summers
« on: June 14, 2020, 04:01:37 PM »

16,000 on the LIKE200i
5,600 on Honda Forza 300
5,800 miles on the Suzuki Burgman 400
6,100 on Piaggio Liberty150i

The LIKE200i has always shared ride duty with one of the others for 7 years.
So, I'm at @33,500 since buying the Kymco in May, 2013.

So, c5,000 miles pa? Probably beating me there, especially after 3-4 months of lockdown / restricted travelling here. And to think my 2020 NY Resolution was to ride more miles! Typical.

Stig/Major Tom is in a "right to ride state." That is he rides for any reason or no reason!

Let's see.  I bought my first scooter late 2010, so about 9 1/2 years ago.

Super 8 150 - 33,300 miles
Sport City 250 - 25,000 miles
Yamaha Majesty - 23,700 miles
Yamaha Smax -5,000 miles
Like 150i - 8400 miles

Total scooter miles = 95,400

I should easily break 100,000 scooter miles by the end of the year.  That will give me an average of around 10,000 scooter miles per year.  I'm still riding motorcycles but not as much as my scooters.

100k miles would probably be a lifetime of riding for me. Just starting to ride on a regular basis going on the Romeo rides every Wednesday, weather permitting.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

My highest year was 18K on a Suzuki Address 110. I'd be surprised if I crack 1000 miles this year, at this rate

Thanks

Ive got around 500,000 miles total, around 400,000 on motorcycles and nearly 100,000 on scooters.  I don't ride the long miles like I used to but I do get out and ride more often.  I doubt I'll ever make it to a million miles.  I expect to ride around 20,000 miles a year now that I'm retired but the Corona Virus has slowed me down quite a bit this year.

When I was a lot younger I regularly went out and rode 4,5,6,or even 700 mile days.  Now I seldom exceed 300 in a day.  Now it's more quality instead of quantity.

That sounds like me 30 years ago K when I did my longest one-day ride. A charity run the length of Britain (John ‘o’ Groats to Lands End) which was around 1,000 miles in about 20 hours!  Couldn’t do it now and even then it felt dangerous as the the last 20 miles or so I was fighting to stay awake.

The follies of youth eh?

Neil I would love to spend about a month on a scooter riding the back roads of the UK.  I don't see it happening but often thought about it since many generation's ago my family orgin was the UK. Looking back at the history it looks like the family was laborers so maybe that's why they left for a better life in US, who knows.

My plan was just to purchase a scooter and sell it when I was done .  Staying in small towns that had lodging and food and not being in a hurry.  Would probably avoid the major cities.

Probably just a pipe dream at this point.

Good to have these pipe dreams KK as it keeps us focused on what's important.  If ever it comes to anything, just let me know if you feel like having a riding buddy while over here!

Riding the Alps has always been on my bucket list.  Some time back I read a ride report about riding in Scotland.  That looked great too!  Too many great places to ride and not enough time or money :(
