You ever doze off?!
« on: June 16, 2020, 11:40:04 AM »
One winter day in Massachusetts, I clearly remember "missing a mile or two" when I was commuting on my Honda bike to my hospital job.
Kinda spooked me.
I can get "in the zone" often on a handsome morning....but that was the only time I can recall having that experience.

You?

I can imagine that has happened to others. ...who are no longer here to share their story with us.

Not on my bike/scooter. I've done the head bob driving in the truck. Last time was on a long trip, hit the next exit and got a motel.  I guess I've missed a turn or two thinking about other things but not really dozing off.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Been there, done that, none too many. Enough to teach the lesson, to realize being saved by external forces.....for a later mission.

my first Ironbutt ride, don't remember I-95 in Georgia, but I have a gas receipt, I remember waking up, wondering how many miles I had been asleep, got off at next exit, 15 minute nap on a picnic table, and I was good to go

I reckon if we're honest, we've all had it happen at least once?  These days I don't ride far / long enough for it to be an issue, but if I did I'd know to break off for a nap at the first signs.

I always realize when I'm falling asleep and will stop and jog for a few minutes on the shoulder. I have experienced what I think you are referring to on a familiar stretch of road a few times. When one's thoughts go elsewhere and you drive the stretch by route memory.

Today, I think he just showed my cup the half&half carton!

I took to jogging in place for a few minutes before a ride after enduring some freezing winter trips. Coffee on top of that and
I'm ready. Except my family makes decaf. It's become a family tradition to buy a $9.99 personal coffee pot when we turn 18.

To answer question--YES, on bike with good air management in nice weather.....never in rain/snow/fog, etc.

Nearly rearended somebody in the Peak District last week. I'd like to say they didn't have brake lights but the reality is I probably was too out of practice after not driving for weeks really. Plus I'm a crap driver.

Before we had a car, my partner fell asleep on the back of my Suzuki Address 110 scooter on a dual carraigeway stretch once. She just went kind of limp, between me and the top box, and I had to bat her with my arm to wake her up.

California 1000/24 hr Ironbutt’ish,
Ducati 907ie, hour 19 in the Sierras, was starting to squint and blowing some corners big time. Pulled off at a bridge and went down to a creek and splashed my face with really cold water (probably too cold), slammed a Mountain Dew and water and carried on. Finished with 20 minutes remaining.  Last 40 miles were at a ton plus. Busted once 90 in a 65, told the Sherriff what I was doing. He asked if I was on time, I said Barely. He said Go, be careful, good luck.
