Big roads and big motors

When chatting on line with a windscreen manufacturer from Greese we discussed why they had so much aftermarket compared to USA.  His quote  (You guy's have big roads and big motors).  I could see the advantages of a scooter in places with tight roads and high fuel prices, especially where distance is not as great. Some of those streets in very old villages  are just not car friendly.  I see why the scooter is the vehicle of choice in a lot of places.

If you just want to ride our interstate system then a big Harley or Gold Wing makes sense.  Get off the highway and smaller bikes are just more practical and fun IMO.  This is true here in the USA but even more true in Europe and some other parts of the world were streets are smaller and distances often shorter.  I think there are a lot of places here where riding a scooter makes sense but many people won't consider a scooter or even a small motorcycle because their ego demands they ride something BIG.  There is a big after market for scooters in Europe because they have so many scooters.  Same thing for Asia.

Got to keep in mind square miles as well. Switzerland is 15,940 sq miles compared to Kansas 82,277 sq miles for example.  Germany 137,988 sq miles  Texas 268,597 sq miles.  Italy 116,347 sq miles  California  163,696 sq miles. Taiwan sq miles 13,974 Ohio 44,825 sq miles.  So yes size matters for distance when your whole country is smaller then a state in the USA.

I covered that in my first post on this subject. Definitely a factor along with insurance and taxes.

My philosophy as well.  Small, out of the way roads are the most fun.  Big roads are for getting somewhere.  Some people plan their rides around a destination.  For me, good roads are the destination.

I had a great ride last weekend.  We rode tiny little roads all day, many only one lane wide, some paved, some not.  There was virtually no traffic.

They are in middle Tennessee north of Huntsville.  We were in Farm country.
