Hello!
« on: July 13, 2020, 08:13:15 AM »
Howdy everyone, new to Kymco and new to the forum. I have just bought a Kymco Super 8 125 which I'm expecting to be delivered today so will get to play with it soon  :)

I'm just enquiring for good recommendations for where to obtain spares. I have another Chinese bike so use CMPO every now and again, but for the Super 8 I'm looking for a ignition barrel. They seem to be unobtanium at present. Anyone know where I can find one or, alternatively, does anyone know if one can be fitted from a different model?

Thanks for your help, look forward to chatting with you guys  :)

Welcome to the forum Kymco is a Taiwanese Scooter with some models being built in mainland China. They are considered better quality then Chinese brands.  Like another poster said I would try your local dealer first for parts. I have found my dealer is competitive on price.

By the way RF-RK is Taiwanese mfg and LA-LO is Chinese mfg. Kymco does have some scooters manufactured in China to their specs.

Thanks fellas.

Dealer? There's not a dealer within 50 miles of me!  HAHAHA I'm gonna try to sort it myself really. The bike arrived this morning. If I can figure a way I'll upload a pic  :)

I've done a bit of digging around and can see the ignition barrel has a 5 cable connector block with two green wires, which I guess are the live circuit wires. So basically I dont see why any standard ignition barrel with a similar connector block shouldn't do the trick :)

Thanks for the pointer to the parts supplier, I shall have a look. I think the light switch is buggered too so may have to see if I can find a replacement switch gear  :)

In which case Super 8 spares should be readily available as they've been sold here for years!  Presume you've tried eBay?  If no joy there I bet there's a slew of specialist motorcycle breakers yards around the ol' metrolops?

As long as you're happy with mail order that shouldn't be an issue.  Contact Kymco UK direct if you can't source elsewhere, i bet they can help... for a price!  :D

Cheers Neil, being a long time "strange bike" rider (Moto Guzzi) I'm used to owning bikes where there are next to no dealers nearby. So my usual recourse is to join the forum and chat to those that know the bikes inside out. Usually a great place for info and help so I naturally thought I'd have a go here first  :)

I do keep an eye on ebay but there just don't seem to any ignition barrels available for the Super 8 125 which is why I was wondering if a barrel from another model would suit.

The Super 8 125 has a 5 wire ignition switch so my guess is that any other similar should suit so I'll probably buy one to see what happens...just thought I'd ask the experts first  ;)

Moto Guzzi's eh?  Now there's one long time itch I've yet to scratch.  When I came back to biking in the 80's I always loved the look and noise of them, but by the 90's (and to this day) I was seduced by the Hinckley triples.  That said, even a modest lotto win would see me add a Guzzi to the stable!

That's a dangerous thought! You're soul has already been sold to the dark side!  ;D ;D ;D Guzzis tend to get under your skin and stay there. There's only one way to scratch that itch!  ;D
