Stig & Crows cruise at same speed...

Noticed 3 large crows join me just overhead for a 1/4 mile this morning on my rural ride out for coffee.
Couldn't help but notice that we were cruising at the exact same speed. Allowing for speedo error --  we were each doing 29 mph.
So, there you go.

PS: IS airspeed the same as ground speed? Or is it something mysterious, like nauts??

The speed unit of knots was created when in  the days of old a float tied to a line with evenly spaced knots down its length would be pitched over the stern of a vessel. For a given time interval the knots would be counted as they slipped over the stern rail. I wish the whole world was metric, it could make a lot of conversions easier.

Yeah,  the USA is the odd man out (with two other countries) on metric. The USA did attempt to go metric in 1975 but ran into to much resistance.

nope I do not believe they tied a knot every 1.15 miles on a piece of rope ….and counted them as they went by.
Hellsbells Home Depot didn't even sell rope that long in those days. Nobody had invented the "long rope" yet.

Cowboys had NO need to lasso cows in the next county.

Even more puzzling is why aircraft use knots, who counts the knots at Mach 3?  Retired Blackbird SR-71  about 30 miles from my house..

I heard that failed because the boys in the federal penitentiaries only had boxes full of numerals too large to fit 3 on the DOT signs..
Thus the USA was about to receive a top speed of 99KPH, nationwide! (less than 62mph)

cause at one time, they fed a rope behind the ship, that had knots tied in it, they counted the knots
