Few Pics From Saturday 2/10/10
« on: October 03, 2010, 08:30:42 AM »
So I went for a ride yesterday, it was a nice day for it so I took the camera. I must get my act together and get a camera I can video on the bike with. The route i took coming home is a little longer than the straight through main road, but when you see the pics, you will see why it is worth it. in all honesty, the pics really don't do it justice, if I can get some video, that would show how nice it is. Obviously, I didn't do this ride on the scooter, I took the GS.
The first couple pics are from the Port Germain Gorge. The original road was put through here in 1879, for grain from the eastern side to be carted to the Pt. Germain jetty for loading onto boats.

Here are a couple of pics from Hancock's lookout, which is at the top of Horrock's pass, 7 Km. down a dirt road.

Here are a couple of pics from the top of Horrocks' Pass and leaving at the bottom. John Horrocks was an explorer who was shot by his camel, well his camel was getting restless and his gun discharged wounding Horrocks, I beleive he later died from the wounds.

This is the road back down to the main highway. Out in the distance you can see Spencer Gulf. Port Pirie is only about 30-40 kilometres from whyalla, but because it is on the other side of the gulf it is about 180 kilometres by road. But, when you can take detours like this, I am not going to complain.
There is another pass a little further north called the Pichi Richi Pass, which has history going back to the original Ghan railway. These nice riding areas are only about 120 kilometres from where I live and so I do ride through there from time to time, is a very nice day out.
Must get organised with some video.

Nice pics. Gotta get me a camera. Gotta learn how to use it. Gotta figure how to get pics from camera to computer. Gotta figure how to get pics online. God, I was born way too early.

Great Pics!! i wish i had roads like that where i am!

For the video i can HIGHLY recommend the ATC 3k video camera. Its a shock/dust/water proof little camera that cost about €90 and it can be mounted anywhere (even underwater so its good in the rain as well). the sound quality isnt the best but then thats what music overlay was inveted for in movie maker :)

G'day courior, welcome to the forum. Thanks for the tip with the camera, but as is always the way, I have so many other things to put money to that I won't be able to buy a camera just yet. I do have a small camera that I tried mounting to the scooter, but it vibrates too much. I do also have a handlebar mount for my kodak dinosaur 3.2mp lump of old digital technology, I just haven't tried it out on the road yet, ( I forgot to take it last time).

Cheers sid for the welcome :) i only had my scooter a few days now but loving it! so smooth compared to the speedfight i used to have, and MUUUCH better on fuel.

Worst way just rubber band ur mobile phone to the bike and use that to record a video :)

Sid, I must take issue with your pics. If you are really from the land down under, why are the pics not upside down. Assure us you're not an imposter.
