According to KS law anything larger the 49cc is classified as a motorcycle.  How about your state and displacement classification?

In Finland 50 cc can do 45 kmh, if you pimp it and it does 65 kmh or more it is a motorcycle, they will give you fine, you must pay motorcycle tax, and you must have license to drive a motorcycle. Still, pimping is common among youngsters, lets say expensive hobby.

Around here you would never get caught, police don't care as long as your not having traffic violations.  It's the tag dept and insurance where you get dinged for over 49cc.

Same here in Pennsylvania. Anything under 50cc is considered a moped. Over 50cc is a motorcycle. And you need a motorcycle license and tags and insurance.

Iowa is the same. 49cc and under is a moped and you can be 14 to ride it (although you must attach a bright orange flag to the back of the scoot if you're under 16 and it must extend 5 ft above the ground).

50cc and above requires a full motorcycle license.

Here in Tennessee above 49cc requires a scooter license and above 125 requires a motorcycle license. I used my Agility 125 for the motorcycle license test so I could ride other bikes.

That sounds good then I thought about it and not a lot of selection of scooters between 50cc and 125cc. Does anyone make a scooter that falls into that category ?

in NH anything 49c or smaller, can get a "moped" plate, only a regular drivers license is needed, you must sign an affidavit that you will not exceed 30mph    over 49cc or faster than 30mph, requires a motorcycle endorsement on your license, and gets a motorcycle plate

In Croatia scooter/motorcycle driving permits have 4 categories.

AM - scooters/mopeds up to 50ccm

A1 - up to 125ccm and max 11kw

A2 - max power 35kw

A - unlimited power, no restrictions, but  must be at least  24 years old to get it, or have an A2 permit for at least 2 years.

Above 50cc or capable of more than 30mph (in the flats I'm assuming) is considered a motorcycle in WA.
A few shades and grades, & I ain't going to bring up the "mopeds" that exceed 30 stock to WA since they seem to kinda fly under the radar.
So pretty similar to other states I've checked on that one.
The only notable exception that I know of these days is MI who I believe allows 100cc or lower...Kinda shocked me when I heard of it, but I guess somebody got smart & updated a law that was designed when "Mopeds" were predominantly 2 strokes...4T 50cc bikes .. are a bit scary slow IMHO

I have a Kymco Sento 100cc which uses the Kawasaki ATV engine. It's a real rocket!

Think that applies EU-wide?  Certainly looks familiar to UK rules. Gone are the days when you could ride your 50cc ‘ped on a car licence!

That is still possible here.
Evebody that gets a car driving license can also drive mopeds and scooters up to 50ccm.

I know that a few EU and at least 1 non EU country allows riding up to 125ccm with a car licence.

In Finland, when you are born before year 1985, you can ride a moped/scooter (50 cc) without any kind of lisence, youngsters after 1985 need to graduate a moped driving license. Earliest at the age of fifteen (15).
