Kymco - Expensive Warranty?
« on: August 19, 2020, 10:41:36 AM »
Having just had the 2,000 mile* service done on my X-Town 300 at a cost of c$100, got me wondering about the "cost" of a manufacturer's warranty.  Assuming you do an average 6,000 miles a year and the warranty runs for 24 months (as is the case here), then I calculate that to keep within the terms of your warranty you'd shell out some $1,500 just in servicing over the 2 years?!

Worth it or not?

(* I know, pathetic in 10 months, but Covid really has clipped my wings this year!)

You'll violate the 2yr warranty if you do your own servicing?
We have a lot of dumb laws in the States, but one good one is that self servicing a vehicle here does not void the warranty.
Just have to keep records and receipts.
Lot of folks here do not seem to be aware of that....and fret over the dealer costs, or distance back to a dealer.

None of my used bikes have a warranty so I do most of my maintenance myself.  I purchased a manual on each model I own for service information. Cost of manual is about a half hour shop time. This year the local dealer had record sales  and his service department was swamped.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

In most places performing maintenance yourself or at a place other than the does not void the warranty. But it’s important that you keep any receipts.

on my downtown 300 i  2011 89,000 Km.s   about 55,000 miles,.  I would have had a 10 year Warrente to be able to use it, so my own work on the scooter was OK,.  now  on my Piaggio b v 350 2016 model  I used the War. once for a collapsed gas tank , the Evap system plugged ?took 3 months for the new tank to get here in Canada,.  and when it came in the dealer could not do the repair for 3 months because of new sales booked the service Dept. up, for that time, so I took the tank home and did it my-self, 3 hours later I went for a ride, with no Evap system, not needed here in Canada,.  from what I can make out only in Cal.  it is required,.  I will be doing my second valve check this fall, and it is easy to do change a disc. like the big bikes motors,  got the right disc from a Kawi dealer,.  mods I have done are installed top box. with running lites brake lites and turn signals, with a flat 5 trailor plug,   then I installed a Malossi variator with new spring in the clutch.,  just like Robot from scooter west.,  it was nice to see how,.  now I just added spot lites to lite up the road at nite,  next thing is to adjust the low beam , and high beam head light, as they are tied to gether, and when you adjust low beam it changes the high beam, and if you change high beam it changes the low beam, so I have to rig up a stand to hold the head light off the scooter, and adjust the two beams at the same time, as the high beam screw is hidden when on the scooter,.
