It may be the relay that powers the injector. Had an injector code last year on the Downtown but the injector tested good with the ohm meter. Volt test proved the relay was NOT getting power. The relay was replaced and the intermittent start and run problem went away.
Your tach going to 5k is a puzzle, though. That usually is associated with a bad connection at the battery or the system bus connection at the start relay.
I have not seen that 5k tach lately so I can't say it happens all the time; now. Did see it but not lately. You may have the right diagnosis on that. I don't know. Positive terminal looked a little corroded. Not much but it still had a little to clean.
The solid problem now is it simply quits running shortly after the warm up or one quarter mile of riding. I let it warm up so the Temperature gauge hits the middle.
The wait 20 minutes and it will start like nothing has been wrong is a constant. That has been a common issue. The running out of gas thing is new.
I'm good with letting the shop take a look. Naturally I ask here because if something needs repair I can't describe or identify correctly then it could mean two trips to the shop. That would suck.

I really do value asking for advice here. So if my ignorance offends it is not my intent. I simply want to be as informed as possible to get the best repairs as possible.
