Compagno / NewS 50i start problems
« on: September 02, 2020, 06:20:14 PM »
I have a 2010 NewS 50i. It runs smoothly but starting it not optimal.

It starts up but then it runs with low rpm and opening throttle will not rev it up.

Shutting down and restarting will have it run normal. Any ideas where to look?

Since your scoot is a 50i I assume it has fuel injection. You might try the attached procedure to reset the throttle position sensor. This is for the Like 200i but the procedure is probably the same.

Thanks for the tip B. It has fuel injection.

I tried and I got no change in behaviour. The engine just does not respond quickly to the throttle, like there is a delay.

I now also noticed that battery light stays on with idle.

And second time starting always is better. Any other things I can check?

Here is the procedure for re-initializing the ECU you can try that if you have the same wire setup. Again this is for a Kymco Like 200i. The fact that you have a battery light at idle might indicate a failing battery, these FI models need a healthy power supply to work properly.

Ok, will look into this. See if it has the same setup.

I took the scoot to a shop to get checked, seems the fuel pump and the whole throttle body(?) needs replacement. Not sure about the translation :).

It has been leaking fuel now. To have these replaced new is very costly. I do have another non-running Kymco News of which I can use the parts.

Fuel pump should be an easy swap but the whole throttle body looks difficult.

Any tips or a shop manual somewhere?

To close this off. I took the scoot to another shop for a second opinion. And they found out it was a seal at the gas tank. It was an easy fix and scoot is running smooth again.
