I refuse to look up at...
« on: September 04, 2020, 11:51:50 AM »
.....big loud HD's with the stereo blasting as they ride through the center of my quiet little coffee village.
I do give a nod of the head to riders as they burble through town on their big bikes with stock exhausts. For the most part all one can hear is the nice, expensive?, mechanical sounds of the drive train.

Admire your self control Stig.  I find myself compelled to look up at ANY passing mortorcycle - much to the wife's annoyance!

regarding the loud music....my motto is "no one gives a Sh*t about your music!".... no matter how great you may think it is, no one else wants to hear it. This holds true for Harleys with big stereos as well as homeowners with speakers in their backyards. NO ONE CARES about your music! No one else want to hear it!

I love my music..that's why I have a bluetooth unit in my helmet with speakers that play music that only I can hear.

OK, rant over. Carry on.

I sit 10' from where my scooter is parked by the curb....enjoying my coffee, the sidewalk birds, and the odd passersby (no, in this village at dawn there are a few odd folks strolling the village - but (having worked in psychiatric hospitals for 15 yrs) as I tell my wife, "Most schizophrenics are harmless, I mean - look at your one sister...")....anyway, two things really bug me about people who park in front of me:
1) guy idling his diesel truck while he slowly drinks his coffee
2) folks playing loud music while they just sit there...sometimes they roll down their window to "share" their favorites!

I'd much rather chat with BasketBall Man, The Stomper, Friar Tuck, or Skirt Man/With Tennis Racket! ( today a strikingly simple
frock, with accessories and Sombrero to match his tennis racket. We talked US Open)

Often considered that option Hawk, even if only to take incoming calls, but always come down on the side of peace and quiet thus far. I guess the distraction factor is also a consideration.

So for now I’ll stick with the sights, sounds and scents (it’s muck-spreading season here) of the countryside, unsullied by a death metal soundtrack.  Mind you, I can recall some spirited rides of mountain passes which would have been enhanced by a background of Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyries”!

Har har.

Next door neighbor and I have a standing joke about a certain individual that has a boom box bungee corded to the scooter with music blaring.

I thought about riding up to his garage on the little Lambretta uno with a cheap boom box strapped to the back blaring (Born to be wild) for a good laugh.

BoomBox & Bungees....

Actually, the cut of his trousers bothered me more than what he'd done to his scooter.

I was somewhat hesitant to install my bluetooth headset/speakers for the reason you mention..possible distraction. it turns out that it's not a distraction at all. I have the music at a low volume (which I can hear just fine even with my earplugs in). I have the ability take calls but it's something I've never done or plan on doing. I've found that having music increases the amount of time I can ride and makes my ride more enjoyable.

I have an inexpensive Cardo bluetooth system that doesn't allow me to communicate with others, just with my phone, which is fine with me as I've never ridden with anyone else!
