Riding Motion Impression on Grand Vista 250
« on: October 06, 2010, 08:22:41 PM »
By MaryK's husband:

When I ride the GrandVista, I feel that the bike does not want to stand straight up.
It tips to one side and then the other side..... not much and no danger of falling over, but frequently.

MK commented that it feels that way when she comes to a stop... unlike her previous scooter, which was easy to keep straight up.

New Grand Vista 2009 scooter with original tires and only 65 miles.

Do other owners get the same impression ?

Is there a fix for this ?

Thanks,

Urbestfriend has a Grandvista and an Xciting 250.  Both have basically same engine and drive,
but Xciting has bigger wheels.   I find a distinct difference between the two.  The weight is
a small difference.   But  I find the Grandvista a tiny bit more squirrely because of the smaller
wheels.  I had 14,000 miles on my Vino 125.  So I had experience with this type of design.

The Grandvista is a comfortable ride and the extra weight really helps in high winds.  Also
the seat is closer to the ground and it's a larger wheelbase.  Not sure of your previous
riding experience,  but you should be able to get used to it.

I really notice this difference when switching from the Xciting to the Grandvista myself.

Thanks for the reply. My experience has been with motorcycles and scooters with much larger diameter wheels.

So, we will monitor the bike and keep correct pressure in the tires.
Only 55 miles on the scooter now, but tomorrow we plan a trip across town (WOW).
No high speed yet and tomorrow's trip will be on city streets, not freeway.

The fact that the scooter is new to you makes every little thing noticeable. In a short amount of time it'll all seem normal.

You know...Agent Bob is right.  After I'm on the Grandvista for a while.
The difference is not as noticable.   By the way,  I rode to the IL/IN
state line last night.  An hour over and an hour back.  Over 120 miles
and used 1 3/4 gallons of gas.   Hope you find the same.

I test rode a GV today and felt the same thing as MaryKs husband. It felt twichy. Also I'm not sure the rear tire was properly inflated. Perhaps I'm just to use to my Agility 125. I didn't buy the unit I drove 160 miles one way because it was kinda scratched up, not what the seller had told me on the phone. To bad, I'll keep looking and make sure the tires are inflated at the proper psi before another ride.

I have GV 250 2009 and it has 300 miles on it. I ride normal 35-42 miles average on street but I sometimes press hard to 60 miles for about 10 minutes, feel so good. I don't know press hard does affecting the engine later on or stay on man. recommendation but I feel good!  ;D

I had the same issue with my GV and found that it was a combination of low rear tire pressure, incorrectly adjusted rear shock and mostly those crappy stock tires! I addressed all those issues and the scoot is a dream (especially with new rubber). By the way i ride everyday 24 miles back and forth to work and there is this stretch of the rode where i get up to 70mph. Have a great and safe ride. :)

Thanks evlweevil, I figuared it had to be something like that. I know tires can make a big difference because I had to relpace the ones on my Agility before it was right. So when test riding one I can make sure the tires are inflated to max (I like to run mine at 40psi) but where should I have the rear shocks. I wieght in at 160lbs. I need help with this because I'm looking at another one this weekend. Thank God it is only 90 miles away.

Well the way i adjust the rear shocks is how the scoot "feels" when sitting on it and riding it. mine felt when riding would bottom out. the best way to adjust (just my opinion) is to sit on the scooter (off the center stand) and bounce the scooter. You will be able to feel how far it travels and when you just sit on it you notice how far it drops from your weight. The rear shocks are very easy to adjust, they have "steps" that adjust the spring height by applying a little downward pressure and turn, just make sure you do it with the exhuast cold.  By the way I weigh about 230lbs and have it set (from the highest step) at the third "step".  Hope this helps! ;D
