What were you doing the moment you heard about the planes?
« on: September 11, 2020, 10:23:45 PM »
At that exact moment, what were you doing?

I was on a ladder, listening to a co-worker's radio, while shooting drywall screws for a new office in a county building

Had just arrived at Porter-Cable factory/ warehouse in Jackson, TN to respnd to a repair call. Was in their great cafeteria (no, really great!) for a cup of coffee when the tv news played live coverage of the SECOND plane deliberately banking steeply to tighten his turn and impacting the untouched tower...

I had worked the night shift and got up and turned on the TV to see the attacks. .   Bless the responders who gave their life trying to help others.  Least we never forget.

I was in my office, when one of my employee's wife called to tell us to turn radio on.

the next day, I was out surveying with GPS equipment, everything went dead for signal, I thought they got turned off, but it was on my end, I had to do a complete hard reboot.

Driving home to my wife and new born daughter when the newsflash came on the radio. Dreadful time.

I was at work headed to the parts department when I walked by the TV in the lobby. The first tower had already been hit,  and I assumed it to have been an accident. While I was watching, the second plane hit. It was then that everyone knew that it was no accident. Later I saw in REAL TIME when the buildings collapsed. It was unreal.

Lying on a sunbed in Tenerife soaking up the last rays before flying home later that day

Actually, I didn't know it had happened until several hours later when we retreated to our room to finish packing. When I turned on the telly I thought I was watching a movie at first.......

Driving to work early for a customer press check, at first it seemed like an accident but as more info was known obviously an attack.

On a ship moored at naval base.  Made ready to sortie, everyone thought war was imminent. Wife (fiancĂ© at the time) and I flew to Italy on honeymoon a month later. Thought it might be the safest time to fly.

At local foodstore working cutting meat at a cold room. Nokia rang and my friend told me to put tv on. Few of us ran into next door bar to watch the news.

Where I live is in the flight path of a lot of airlines going cross country so you always see con-trails in the sky. After 911 it was eerily silent with no visible con-trails.  The only thing in the sky was fighter jets and Blackhawks.

Father was stationed in Paris when Kennedy was shot -  we were sitting in a movie theatre at SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe), the movie stopped and all of our dads disappeared that evening for 4 days....as we stared at the Soviets --- waiting.

Before that, we were stationed in southern Florida during the Cuban missile crisis....our AirForce fathers went away for days then, too.

I'm on a major E/W flight path, as well - and we all looked at our clear sky's - free of contrails after 9/11.

Was working for Triumph Motorcycles America as a District Manager for the NW Coast (N.Cal, Or,Wa,Id,N.Nv), Was in Seattle for Dealer Visits and a Release party for the then new 2001 Bonneville. At the Holiday Inn near the Space Needle, bouncing out tof the shower and flicked on the TV. Without the sound on, saw the fire in the first tower and said to myself " How they gonna put that out?". Little bit later the second plane hit and it all became clear then. When out to one of my dealers in Issaquah, the entire staff was watching the TV's. Didn't get much done that day but managed to get an order.
