Movie 150 stalls when throttled

Movie 150 stalled out while coming home, looking for ideas on how I might fix it as I had to walk it home.


I was able to restart it multiple times. It would idle just fine, but if you give it any gas it would stall out. Electric seems to work fine. Lights remained on, horn worked, and it restarted every time

It’s 2013. Driven maybe 500 miles per year through neighborhood. Kept outside during summer. Garage kept and not ridden during winter. Last put gas in about two months ago. Last time up was two years with new spark plug and not much else. Mechanic said it was running fine otherwise. I believe oil and air filter were changed about two years ago at that time. No fuel additives

Likely suspect is small glob of goo stopping the fuel passages if using ethanol gas.

another possibility - if you have a carburetor and you can idle fine but it dies or stumbles badly when slightly opening the throttle that usually points to a clogged pilot jet (or slow speed jet).  I had the same problem with my scoot last year. The pilot jet has such a small opening that it's very easy to clog. I used a single strand of wire from a wire brush plus carb cleaner to clean it up.

As Crossbolt said - avoid gas containing ethanol, if possible.

In some areas of the country - ethanol-free gas is just not available to us. My local mega-brand dealer uses the corner filling station for everything they sell.

So, if I see myself getting socked in by bad weather for more than a week or two - I'll at least go look for my bottle of Stabil.
Nevertheless, we've never had a problem with 10% corn squeezin's in our EFI engines.

There is a Web site that will tell you where you can purchase ethanol  free gas in your area, Pure Gas.   Even FI engines can have issues with ethanol if it sits for long periods of time unused.

There is a station which sells ethanol free gas - 28 miles to the west of me. And some say there is a fishing dock about an hour and a half north who used to sell it.

Usually a place that has lots of marine motors around carry ethanol free gas, The ethanol attracts moisture. Aviation gas is ethanol  free as well.

always shocking to hear of other areas where it's extremely difficult to find ethanol free gas! I live in Iowa..Iowa!...king of corn and ethanol production. Something ridiculous like half the corn production in the state goes toward ethanol production..but almost every gas station around sells ethanol free gas.

More often than not it's the premium grade but at all the Casey's Convenience stores they have regular old 87 octane without ethanol.

Now, they charge you an extra 25 or 50 cents per gallon to go corn free...but in a scoot or lawnmower the extra expense is no big deal.
