Kymco Super 8 150 gas problems?
« on: October 08, 2010, 03:56:10 AM »
This is my first Kymco and so far I love it up until a few days ago.  I hadn't ridden in about three weeks and when I went to start it, it wouldn't start.  I'm thinking it has to do with the whole ethanol gas situation gumming up the works.    I know now how to treat the gas and not to let my scoot sit around for too long but I don't know how to fix what may have already happened in the engine.

What's going on is when I try to start it I can only get it going with the kick start.  Then it kind of chugs then putters out if I just LOOK at the throttle.  I'm not familiar with the inside of a scooter at all. :(

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Three weeks doesn't really seem like long enough for gas to go bad, though maybe the ethanol stuff is different.

Some STA-BIL might help prevent the fuel from going bad if you don't ride it all that much. The stabilized fuel in my Honda generator works just fine, even a year after I put the stabilizer in.

If it's a fuel issue, you might consider getting some Chevron Techron Fuel System Cleaner -- it's available at pretty much any auto parts store. The bottles are normally sized for 15-20 gallon car gas tanks, so be sure to put in proportionally less additive for the smaller scooter fuel tank. That should help clean out a bunch of gunk.

Hi hookerella,  I'm in texas too (where are you?) and my a50 is hard to start after a day or two of sitting.  I'm not having the problems you are...

I wonder if the fuel filter is gummed up...

Im usually on a bicycle, so for me, this thing is hauling ass!

I'm a bit south of SA.  I just decided to take my scoot to the dealership.  I have a feeling it is the carb.
