Downtown 125i 2013 dead..
« on: October 10, 2020, 07:43:08 AM »
Hi everyone,
i am new here and have no idea where to start and whome to ask,so sory for that.
i have downtown 125i and last day tried to jump it from another battery and friend mixed the polarities and some sparks came up and scooter died.
I checked fuses,battery still good 12 v..
Could it be that ECU died?
thanks a lot..

Start looking at the fuse block above the battery. Your 30 amp fuse is probably blown...

you may have to check the wires from battery to key and to ECU. that means open up the wire harness,

De dee is right to check wires and connections. Assuming you are not familiar with the sequence of wire size and convention, I will try to bore you! Fat red wire comes from battery to start relay. Smaller red wire from there to the fuse block then to the rest of the systems. Connections at battery, relay, and fuse block. These may all be checked without dissecting any harness. Next is battery negative. Fat, black wire to generally the engine casing near the starter. Also a smaller black wire to frame ground near regulator/rectifier on machine right side about middle way of seat. That will be connections at battery, engine and frame. Loose and/or corroded will be the first priority. Check for battery voltage all along the "red route" relative to the battery negative post. Then do the "black route" relative to the positive post. Tell us what you find.

First of all, thank you guys so much for helping me..
I checked red line (battery, relay, fuse box) all good, and black one too, battery to the point where is fitted to the frame of scooter, all good..
What I noticed is that all 5 fuses are good, but response is coming only from 2, H/L 15A (don't know the meaning) and CHARGE 30A,rest of them FAN 10A,IGNITION 10A,MAIN 15A, nothing... !?

H/L 15A = headlight or high/low beam, same, same.
CHARGE 30A = This is the main circuit fuse, powers nearly everything and through which charging
                            power gets to battery.
The rest of them is where your problem is. Gimme a minute to find a wiring diagram to try a suggestion BEFORE you start cutting into the harness!

Check your engine run/stop switch. Cycle it off/on several times. Then turn on ignition to try for normal operation.

Check your sidestand switch. Put bike on center stand. Cycle sidestand several times then try ignition. If no response, unplug sidestand switch and plug the sidestand connector into another connector nearby that has two green wires and fits. Then turn on ignition to see if you get normal operation.

Where did the sparks jump from?

From the battery, not sure if that was negative od positive port and at the same time everything else went off.

Are you using a multimeter to check for voltage?

yes, curently it is 11.5v, it is a bit low power but even if I jump it from another battery it is the same.

Battery voltage WAY too low. Should be12.5, 12.6 no load. But what I am wondering is voltage checks at the fuses when you turn the key on. The fuzes normally supplied by the factory allows a meter probe into the fuse metal for trouble shooting such problems. There is a small slot or hole right in line with each "blade" of the plug-in fuse.
