Kymco UXV 450i rear brake groan/squeal
« on: October 24, 2020, 01:07:52 AM »
I picked up a used kymco 450i uxv and noticed the rear brakes squealed like a whale very loudly.  I replaced all the pads and it didn’t seem to help at all.  It drives me nuts, could there be a missing tensioner or is there organic pads available somewhere?  Any help would be greatly appreciated, I hate when every stops and stares when I pull in someplace.

Common on these types of rear brakes, caused by crud buildup on disc and pads. Power flush with a garden house normally takes it away for a short time.  Also rapidly pumping the brake pedal sometimes helps. My machine runs mostly on grass and pavement so little noise until I get on sandy or hard pick trails.
I have heard other machines with similar brake systems making the same noise. Power flush and see if it continues...

Get used to it. Keep a can of brake cleaner handy. It’s the nature of these type brakes..if Kymco would put dual disc brakes on the rear, these wheelers would be perfect.
When I go down some of these hills in East Tennessee, it squalls like a banshee.
