Gained 7 MPH on my Like150i

At 10,007 miles the belt broke on my like 150i.  I ordered a new belt, rollers and sliding block from the Kymco Dealer.  Kymco had no belts in stock in the USA.  I found a new belt at Scooter Dynasty in California.  I got it in but scratched up the flat faces on the Variator pulley so I ordered new ones.  Luckily these were in stock.

So I replaced much of the variator and the belt.  This variator does not have any sliding blocks.  The old rollers had really bad flat spots on them.

Before the belt change my top speed was down to 58-59 MPH on the speedo which only reads 1-2 MPH high.  After the change I could get 65-66 MPH.

I think I'll change this belt and rollers around 9K.  The manual calls for belt replacement at 12K.

I changed my Like 150i belt at 8200 miles.  It looked as though it could have easily lasted another 2000 miles, but I changed it anyway.  Kymco belt Mitsuboshi 23100-LFB6-900.  Two of the rollers were showing obvious flat spots, so I installed a new set.  Roller set 22121-GFY6-325.  The variator boss was sticky with grease, and the roller cages were dirty but not sticky.  Variator plate was not worn, but I did scrub the belt residue from the place where it reached its upper limit of travel.  I cleaned everything with spray brake cleaner and installed with no lubricant at all on the boss, shaft, or rollers.  Now the scooter is much smoother and quicker at take-off.  Top speed increased slightly, too.  Noticeable difference in overall performance!  Earlier, at 7500 miles, I checked and adjusted the valves.  Intake valves were in spec, exhaust vales needed slight adjustment.  This made no noticeable difference in engine performance--but I felt better about it!

  Changing the roller/slider weight is probably the easiest and cheapest modification you can make to your scooter. I've had 4 Kymco's so far, and I've installed 1 to 1 1/2-gram lighter Dr. Pulleys sliders in all of them. Very pleased with the results in performance.
