Drive belts
« on: November 21, 2020, 02:22:42 PM »
Since 1990---11 new rubber band drive scooters, over 400,000 miles---my count at least 25 new drive belts at around $125 a piece---so over $3000 in belts alone=not cheap....but I believe in OEM replacement belts, not cheap maybe unproven reeplacements?....walking sucks and breakdowns on trip cost money, getting run over even worse  Record: only one broken/eaten up belt---Helix in VA.  Helix=easy belt replacement.

I carry spare belt (as dealers do not usually have them in stock)

I assume drive belts on bigger (heavier) scooters have a shorter lifespan than drive belts on smaller scooters ?

I just accept what the manufacturers say on belt life, but XTown is about the smallest displacement scooter I have owned/used except----Helix 250 had 4 new/Reflex one/Daelim 125----but 2 new SilverWings 600's/ 2 new Suzuki Burgman 400's.   I think belt drive (no teeth) works best with 250 being top displacement.

Not necessarily.  I put 18K miles on the original belt on my majesty and it didn't look worn when I replaced it.  On the other hand the belt on my Like 150i snapped at 10,000 miles even though the replacement interval is 12,000 miles.

Bigger heavier scooters also tend to have bigger belts.

Thanks, that makes sence.
I guess riding habits an the purpose the scooters get used for also play a role.
