TRoy's riding adventures, ETC
« on: December 01, 2020, 03:09:03 PM »
...So we picked up a '15 DT in August 2020 thinking it might be a good starter bike for her son. WRONG lol . And well, to make a short story long - I was having a really good fun time riding it around so decided to keep it for myself. So I bought a used seat & modified it to my liking & the past couple weeks have been sport-touring all over the place on it. Absolutely LOVE IT ! What a hoot! More smiles-per-hour than any bike I've ever owned. I suspect I will keep it forever for solo sport touring hooliganism ;D
I live in Barboursville WV surrounded by awesome roads in every direction & my local day rides include Southwest WV, Southern OH & Eastern KY. My hunny Sheila loves to ride too but only if it's over 60F.  For 2up riding we use the 650Burg or FJ1200. BTW yes I know there are dedicated forums for intros & ride reports etc. but I want to keep my pics & such here under one subject for ease of reference later. Cheers

Great ride last week southern OH . check out the modified seat. it's perfect for me (6'+ , 230lb) might have it recovered one of these days to fix the flappy area but maybe not.

That chain would make good security, even in NYC....but would still need to be anchored in concrete or 32 guys will drag it off.
Thx for the pic!

Great ride last week in KY! Have done this ride probably 50 times over the years, arguably the best twisty day-ride in the tri-state. Plus there is brand new pavement on rt649! It's only 1.5 lanes but awesome! All the other highlighted roads on the map pic are 2 lane roads w/yellow line in the middle :D

Neat pictures. We have a large electric shovel in mineral KS know as Big Brutus.  Before it was turned into a Museum I took my Dodge colt and drove around in the bucket. The bucket  held enough overburden to fill 3 railroad cars. The boom was 16 stories tall.  If your ever in eastern KS it is worthy of a side trip.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

well I was hoping to post a pic of the ride today on my DT, but this morning it would not start. Has done this a couple times after sitting in the cold (like below 40) for more than a day or three out in the cold garage. good strong crank but no startup. gonna get a new iridium plug see if that helps. anyway, the big burg fired right up & held it's own . 250 miles OH KY WV

well... this morning I went out & preheated my DT with an ordinary household heater for about 20 minutes and it instantly fired right up. Took a little ride around Huntington WV this morning before the rains came. Bouncing around on my new defect POS Shinko rear tire (that's a whole 'nother subject) but did manage to zip around a bit & get a few pics. Cheers

...so, off with the oval shaped shinko & on with a perfect michelin  8) love the sport profile & tire feels great! ..but the tire is noticeably shorter than the shinko & the oem maxxiss, and has actually decreased my allowable lean angle before scraping. so now I'll be looking into springs I guess & other 'how to raise the bike" mods.

is the tire the correct, factory size? I know tires can vary a little but it's odd that it's noticeable shorter in diameter. How much smaller in diameter is the new tire than the OEM tire?

Yep, sounds like he bought a different tire size.
Will change the 'gearing' and maybe the speedo. "Shorter" (smaller) tire will increase revs at previous road speeds  - and make it feel like it has more power low-down because of the increased revs....and might run out of breath at the top.
