I reconnoiter before winter rides.
« on: December 03, 2020, 05:02:29 PM »
Couple of days since the snow, and while roads look clear I know that ice can still be around in the shaded areas.
Which is not something I want to see in my scooter headlight some dark morning.

My winter default route is often through the local State Park.

Took the pup for a walk there this morning...26°F

then went scouting the road in the Chevy F-150i....

No worries with the 7 deer we saw, but yeah buddy here would have been a panel scraping bit of road. (I counted 3 such in 5 miles)

Will look in my owner's manual "maint. log" pages and see if somebody needs their oil changed. "How long has that gear oil been in there?"

Good call Stig. No need for unnecessary exposure to potentially scooter damaging sheet ice. The Like has stayed pretty this long...

That and I learned a new word, reconnoiter- make a military observation of a area. I always new it as the abbreviated version.

Expanding my horizon wasn't to long ago I learned Time is a function of gravity. From the program Genius by Stephen Hawking.

It’s a sad day when you don’t learn anything as me old Mum used to say.

our previous forecast of 2-4" & 35mph gusts, has been upgraded to 9-15" with 40mph gusts,  dropping at a rate of up to 3"/hr

our first noreaster of the season

luckily, after 7 months waiting for parts, my UXV450i is coming home today, all fixed, and with a winch & plow mounted

rain is just turning to flakes as I post,

Have fun 😊

snowing at a good rate when the delivery guy arrived, first task, take the wheels off, and swap em out for my set with chains,  by the time I got done, there was already 4" on the ground,

wish I had my V-strom set up for winter,  I'd go for a noreaster ride, need a new front tire, the block knobby I studded before is now obsolete, so I get to research again, I have gone to the darkside for the rear, my original General Altimax Arctic was so successful, I'm gonna get a Nokian Hakkapelliitta this time around, now that I know I can squeeze a 205/50 ibn a 4" wheel
