Looking for sympathy....
« on: December 11, 2020, 03:47:41 PM »
Feeling very miffed at the moment as the sun is out, the roads are dry and it's passably warm (9c), but I can't go riding.  It's a sorry saga, but daughter arrived home from work and parked her Audi up on the drive as per usual.  About an hour later we hear a hell of a noise which sounded like it came from the garage.  Now before I go any further I should mention our drive slopes down to the house in a gentle 1:10 slope.

On entering the garage I see it's chaos with stuff all over the floor and my X-Town shifted from where I left it.  Turns out the handbrake on the Audi had sprung off and the (manual gearbox) car being in neutral, the car had rolled gently down the drive and into the garage door.  A quarter ton of car caved the roller front door in sufficiently to move the X-Town, but fortunately not to knock it off it's centre stand.

Anyway upshot is the bikes are effectively locked in until the guy comes to repair it in a week!  Bummer.
Regards & ride safe,
Neil

That does suck. My truck is a manual transmission and I always leave it parked in reverse gear.  My drive slopes as well but towards the street.

You are very fortunate that your X-town wasn't damaged.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Had a similar experience with my manual transmission Dodge colt. After a night of excess I parked my Colt in the drive but did not leave it in gear. Since I came home at 2AM I slept in until 11 that morninng. My car had rolled out the driveway between two telephone poles made a curve in the street and was parked with 3 wheels in my neighbors yard.  Keep in mind this was 30 years ago.  All my neighbor said was it must of been a fun night and had a big grin.

Was spring-loaded to say "you'll find sympathy between snit and syphilis in the dictionary" but had to change course after reading the situation! Sorry to hear about this event. We all assuming the x-town undamaged since you only mentioned moving. Yeah, the garage door would be a goner in this type of event. Daughter, how is she taking this?

Thanks KK, whenever I park her car I always leave it in gear.  Now she knows why! [emoji849]

X-Town appears unaffected I hope. Daughter less so, she’s suitably mortified and insisting on paying for the damage. I won’t let her of course, but it will cost her a suitably expensive bottle of wine!

That was a guess.  I see the car actually weighs 1,500 KG’s or 1.65 US tons!

Thanks Ruffus you’re right, no one injured IS the main positive here. And,   the scooter Gods smiled on me.

no damage luckily, just put er in 4wd and drove it out

my parents had their car roll away on a camping trip, not so lucky, they were camping in Maine, pulled their camper there with their '68 Chevy Impala, they had gone out to a square dance and returned to the campsite, my dad, used to driving a standard, left it in gear, instead of Park. they got out of the car, went into the camper, and proceeded to get undressed for the evening. When my dad heard the car start to roll, when he ran out of the camper in his underwear, chasing the car down the hill, smack into a tree, dead center, pushed the engine back to the firewall, needless to say, totaled,  next day, they found a used '68 Olds Delta 88, almost identical car, but with the Olds badge, this story, is second hand from what my Mom told me.
