Good experience with a mechanic!
« on: January 03, 2021, 08:52:08 PM »
...for my 14 yr old Chevy truck (might be a Ford?)
After too much excitement with the Chevy Dealer in town - I've tried a local shop for a couple of repairs.
2 yrs ago the truck blew out both brake systems as I was backing out of my driveway (so, into private shop for $800 brake line kit)
New year's eve took it back to these guys for malfunctioning pedal at low speed stops (ABS) Repaired with new parts for $400.

Finished in one day (I was there when they opened)- called me with the price for approval, etc.
I had a very good VW shop for decades - and now seem to have found a good shop for American cars!

Word-of-mouth from relatives brought me to these guys.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I have used a independent mechanic for decades.  He is extremely knowledgeable and his rates are fair. If I want to tackle a problem I can talk it over with him.  I was joking with him that when he retires I will have to purchase a new truck.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

I agree, there are some real good ones out there. My first job out of college was selling cars at a big Chevy/Buick/Cadillac dealer and one of the best techs there eventually left and opened his own shop. I've been taking my cars to him for the past 20+ years. Solid guy, very nice, honest as the day is long. Heck, he won't even do some of the maintenance I've wanted him to do over the years..he'd tell me I was wasting money as it wasn't needed!

So you may need to look a bit..but good shops (and guys) are out there.

My VW guys were like that. "No, you don't need that. Not yet - we'll let you know." Plus - for 30 yrs I could walk to work from their shop.

Agree with all that’s been said above. I always use a local workshop where I know the owners; occasionally they will refer me to a nearby Land Rover specialist if special tools or diagnostic software needed, but by and large they can tackle pretty much anything!
