Motojitsu.....bought a BMW C400X scooter?
« on: January 28, 2021, 06:59:32 PM »
if you're not familiar with him, Motojitsu has a very successful Youtube channel (among other things) where he teaches and preaches all about motorcycle skills practice and safety. He's a motorcycle instructor and has had all kinds of bikes from big to small...and he just sold his street bike (Tracer 900) and bought a new 2019 BMW C400X scooter! That leaves him with a scooter and a track bike.

I wasn't aware this scooter even existed..looks pretty cool from the BMW website. Wondering if this is also Kymco based? (motor is a 350cc single) Good video showing some love to the scooter!

Hawk, damn you!   ;)  Having watched that vid I've just returned from a rabbit hole which has me seriously wondering if I can justify this:

It really does sound like the perfect next scoot for me....

Neil - I also think that's one hell of a nice looking scoot! Funny that this is the first I've heard of it. It has all the electronic driver aids, dual front discs, it's great looking, seems to have plenty of power for all around riding..and I like the creative underseat storage that expands when parked, I think that's brilliant.

What I especially liked in his video was a 'macho' motorcyclist, instructor, racer, former Marine, etc....saying the heck with what anyone thinks, I'm buying the best 2 wheeled vehicle for my needs! Everything from neighborhood cruising to riding the Interstate. He has lots of viewers and followers on his various platforms. This can only help scootering as a whole, showing a whole new group of people that scooters can be great all around vehicles.

Hard to go wrong with a BMW.  I know the Rotax motor in my BMW GS 650 was built by Kymco. Just curious what does a Kymco 550 go for across the pond?

My dealer refused to sell me a BMW 400cc scooter. That says enough.

About* two grand sterling more than the Beemer KK! For that reason alone the AK550 is a non-starter for me. (Until some low mileage secondhand machines become available maybe.)

* to be exact £6545 vs £8899!

Having read this thread:
https://www.bmw-scooters.com/index.php?threads/brand-new-c400x-stalls.1942/
I think my enthusiasm for the little Beemer has been somewhat tempered. Seem to recall reading similar criticisms of the big GS model?....

Wonderful!!!
https://nmoto.com/golden-age/
To get such a vehicle here in Europe on the street, with this kit, would cost you at least a half a year of applying at several authorities, then they would make you to do an emission test, brake pad certification, all in all a new comissioning. As you would have built the whole motorcycle on your own. Then, you would be allowed to use it for certain events, etc.
We, l had this issue with a two axle boat trailer, which l constructed and built. All according to tech specs with factory made compounds and so on. Alone the rear removeable illumination was a hassle ...
 Never again.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

Gosh, I've heard about how tough it can be for you guys to get (any) vehicle project on-road & legal. In contrast, here in West-By-God-Virginia USA,  just recently passed new motor vehicle laws that allows us to even drive our ATVs & UTVs, dirtbikes on basically all roads EXCEPT the interstate, so long as they are registered & fitted with basic safety equipment like DOT tires, lights, horn, turn signals etc. We do have annual safety inspections but no emission testing. I could probably put a washing machine on a go kart frame - add lights etc and get it legal! Check out this recent gem I found for sale in Ohio.. :D  God Bless America

Sorry Ruffus, I think it looks hideous compared to the C400X donor machine. Looks like it came straight off the set of Flash Gordon!

They aren't that reliable, dealer said the weakest parts are the electronics and they don't like working on them. This includes their new motorcycles as well.

This dealer also sells Honda, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Triumph, Harley Davidson, Aprilia and of course Kymco.
