People 50 Repair
« on: February 03, 2021, 06:22:23 PM »
I was given a Kymco People 50 and I just cannot figure out how to get it started.  What I have performed so far:

  • Removed Carb and cleaned it
  • Drained old gas and replaced
  • Cleaned the fuel filter and vacuum petcock
  • Air filter was powder and I have removed the whole intake box right now since I was cleaning the carb
  • It is getting fuel and I have primed the carb
  • It does have compression, but I do not have the tools to measure how much
  • Replaced the spark plug and it does generate spark when I ground it out on a piece of the medal frame
  • The spring on the throttle oil valve is not attached correctly (throttle will stay open when turned), but I have not gotten around to fixing this yet. I currently have it set to the "0 throttle" position.

The engine turns over just fine on the starter, and almost sounds like "running", but it will not fire on its own.

Here is a video of it on the starter:

Any ideas on how to get it running would be appreciated!

I sounds to me like it is firing but won't stay running.

Fixed the spring on the oil inlet and then just had to pretty much had to force it to fire with starter fluid.

Once it ran out the crud that was in the engine, its running great. Surprisingly smooth engine for 15 years old!
