Liberty is going in for its 1st service!
« on: February 04, 2021, 06:41:08 PM »
And it's a real scooter shop!

My Liberty is going in for service for the 1st time since I brought it home the summer of 2017. (My local Vespa dealer blew away shortly after i purchased my Piaggio from them)

Heck - I've never even been to a scooter-only shop!

I'm having the set of Pirelli Angels installed at Capital City Scooters over in Columbus, OH. They sell and service Genuine , Lance, SYM and Kymco scooters. Their customers include Vespa owners - so I'm trusting them with my Piaggio.

In talking with the serv. dept. of my local mega-brand motorcycle/scooter dealer (incl. KYMCO) they are not comfortable removing the wheels from my big-wheel Piaggio - and they want @$60 OTD to do each tire if I hand them the wheels.

Checked with Capital City Scooters - they can remove the wheels and install the tires for not much more than the above price. They are willing to deliver and return my scooter for a reasonable fee....saving me from riding 53 miles over into downtown Columbus. The ride over is miles of 55mph roads - which = 65+ to Ohioans. So, not keen on the ride.

Other than gas and oil - and a new OEM belt & rollers ($34, $15) - this scooter has not been a wallet drainer over the past 4 years of riding.
So, I booked an appointment with them for a few weeks time.

Unboxing my Liberty 2017.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

College town scooter shops are fun..they have a very different vibe to them than do big motorcycle dealers. Too bad you won't be able to hang out there and check out the other scoots while yours is being worked on. Sounds like a very reasonable price and a nice deal you've worked out with the pick up and delivery. All you do is smile and write them a check when it's over!

@Stig,
are in this mentioned price of ~ $ 60,- per wheel new tires included or is it just labour?

I got my new pair of City Grip 2’s fitted & balanced by my guy all in for £110, so I’m guessing Stig’s quote will include the rubber!

I'm sure the $60 per wheel is for the labor as the tires themselves cost more than $60 each. My local motorcycle shop charges regular shop labor rates to mount tires. Current rates are $110 / hr (?) or something similar.

 Tires came to @ $130 shipped. I did check with my local dealer to see if there was a discount on mounting if tires were purchased through them - there was not. Their parts dept. has proven to be rather slow to attend to scooter owners....so bought tires on-line.
I've had 6 tires replaced over the past 8 years - all by shops.
I know, many of you like to mount your own tires.
Two Angels are waiting in a heated guest bedroom for pick-up and installation.

@Stig,
txs. So it might come to $300,- to have it done inclusive hauling for and back. It's not inexpensive but on the other side, every --ish years...

Wow, $300 for a pair of scooter tyres fitted? That’s about double UK prices!  I’ll never complain again about our prices.

Going to try these Angels - even though I'm a sworn Michelin Man (cars & scoots). If they don't get me 5 years on the rear and 7+ or so for the front - it'll be Michelins again next time, with a note of apology to Michelin, in Clermont-Ferrand, for my lapse.

I told my wife, "Thinking of trying some Pirelli Angels on the red one."
 She said, "A couple of angels under you might be a good idea."
I was thinking the same.....

@Stig,
think Mrs.Stig got some sense of humor...
.btw, attached some pics from todays italian bigger sales platform.
The previous owners of this white one, which sells for €400,- and shows 60.000 kms might have not even wasted a thought about Angels or service, except changing oil, and still's running. Tells me about KYMCO quality.
The other one, white/blue LX MY. 2017 just to show you how right now the market behaves.

Four year-old Like 200 and going for €400?  Someone could get a bargain!  And it’s Stig blue & white colour scheme.
