Looking at a 2007 125 Agility

I have a Yeager and has been a pretty good bike. Recently I ran into a 2007 125 Agility that is up for sale for about $500 obo. The owner says he has owned it for a couple of years and says the electric start has never worked and has always used the kick starter. It has a few scratches but no major damage. I did notice that the Agility seems to be one of the more popular scoots on the forum going by the number of topics and number of posts. It seems like a decent deal even if I don't really need another scooter. Hoping I could solve the starter problem with a new one. Owner has never had it checked out and just wants it gone. Any feedback would be great. Thanks, Ernie

Maybe the starter is not faulty, the problem could be elsewhere - like a loose wire, blown fuse, corroded terminal or bad connection at the fuse,, corroded or faulty starter button, faulty starter solenoid, etc.
I would just bridge the  two big terminals at the starter solenoid with a short piece of wire first - just to see if the engine swings. If it does not swing, the problem could still be caused by a loose wire, or due to reasons mentioned above.
If the engine swings, the starter is obviously not faulty.
If you have  Multimeter, someone at the forum or myself should be able to tell what to do to get it going.

Thanks for the reply. I agree it could be a number of things preventing the starter from working. I do have a multi-meter. I'm just wondering if it's worth fixing it up to keep or just turning it over. The scoot only has about 1700 miles on it. It does seem to be a fairly popular bike on this forum. Again, Thanks, Ernie

If everything else looks to be good and it has not been abused, I'd say that's a pretty good deal for such a low mileage bike.  Could be fun running down the starter problem.

Depending on where this scooter was usually located during it’s lifespan I think it might be quite risky to buy it , despite the low mileage.
If it was located in a high rainfall area with a big difference between winter and summer temperatures there is a possibility that the piston sleeve, all engine roller bearings, and other engine components could be slightly rusted. The fuel tank could be rusted, and chances are good that the carb is clogged up badly - so there is a possibility that you need to buy a new carb.
The tyres are quite old by now, might be cracked, and might need to be replaced.
Ditto for the CVT driving belt.
On top of this, there is still a possibility that the starter motor need to be replaced.

Hopefully I am not too negative, but I think you just need to consider everything.

P.S. It probably needs a new battery as well.

just my five cents to this. If you have space to store I for my part would stick to the same model which l already have, in your case a Yager. I did this with a motorwrecked Like 125s.
For reasons:
- did not spend that much for the scoot
- had fun to take it apart
- found out how my Like is put together
- had all of a sudden lots of spareparts
- have now a complete pictured manual how and where each part on my Like is located at.

I have owned two scooters, One was a TaoTao and my second one is the one that I have currently. as for the starter you might want to check the battery, alot of times scooters will not electric start with a weak battery. Just recently ordered a new battery for mine, Got less than two months out of the thing, but I suppose that is the price to pay for riding short distances in the cold.

Yes sigtom I did. We have horrible winters here in Missouri and in a couple of months my battery was not holding a charge. I unfortunately do not have a power hookup at my location ( I have a carport) However, where I park my bike at work has a power hookup, Bought a small battery charger/ maintainer from amazon and I plan to hook it up when I am at work. My scoot is down for two weeks because mother nature decided that she was going to give us sub zero, Bone chilling temperatures and about 12 inches of snow.
