Oldest Riding Kit still in regular use?
« on: February 20, 2021, 10:38:28 AM »
Not looking for any cork helmet stories here, just riding kit you still safely use. A bit of winter down time fun.

For me, it’s either my silk skull cap helmet liner bought in Arizona 35 years ago or my Cordura Gore-Tex Dianese jacket, bought in the UK about the same time.

As I tend to ride a lot---my stuff wears out---Aerostitct stuff good for at least 100,000 miles, on my second Aerostich Darien Jacket and pants, wore out one 1 piece suit and a 2 piece suit, second pr of their boots---at end  either throw away or I had, now dead friend, who would sell them on EBAY to people who wanted to look like they rode a lot.   Langlitz leather jackets last 20 years for me---got good money back on ebay....from riders who wanted to look like they rode a lot.

As riding gear is also safety gear---not good to keep it around.  I go thru 2 3/4 helmets a year----dirt and stink, I generally pay in the $40 area, white color.

Oldest thing I use right now or now and then=more than 10 year old Langlitz Heavy duty gloves, good to about 40-45 degrees F

Did not keep my Bell helmet after I had my wife sell our* motorcycle while I was in  Vietnam in 1969.....so I've nothing older than stuff bought for scooter riding in 2013.

Bought a pair of good boots with steel kick plate and toes, about '66 i think.
Replace the kick plate twice but the boots are still good.
No time left to waste.
Make every day count/

Sound like they were a great investment!

Bell Tom? Wasn't their strapline "if you've got a $10 head, get a $10 helmet!"? Always thought that was a very subtle way of justifying their premium price.

Well, it was 53 yrs ago - but I seem to recall that it was my father ( the Colonel) who bought Bells for my wife and I both. He was kind of taken by the quiet teenage SoCal wife I brought home to Massachusetts 😊
She could do no wrong - me, on the other hand....

I have a 26 year old Aerostich Roadcrafter suit.  I don't like it as much as my more modern gear but occasionally still wear it.  I have some gloves that are more than 30 years old.
