Kymco like 200i fuel pump keeps running
« on: March 07, 2021, 03:31:22 PM »
Hello everyone again, you probably recognize the name I’ve been trying to get my scoot running for a little over 2 years now, today was the day, new fuel injector, new fuel pump assembly, née spark plug, it cranked right up amd ran like a dream, I turned it off to put the seat and everything back on and now when I turn the key on, the pump runs for about 10 seconds then it stops for a split second and I hear the fuel relay click and the pump starts again pumping for about 10 seconds and over and over again, now I can’t get it to start ugh
Please help

KILL switch in the run position? (We've all done it)

Any chance you can shoot a video for youtube?

Is the injector still spraying properly? or is it clogged?

I would not waste any more time or $ before I'd post your exact findings to the tech at cyclepedia.com.
After a doz. pages offered here - I'd give him try.

I rec'd a reply in 24hrs the other day when I asked them a question about the LIKE200i.
I often wondered about you and your LIKE.
Glad you didn't give up!

Bad electrical connection that is getting worse I am betting. Bet a voltmeter will show power being on and off even though key is on....

@whiskers626,
in an common effort we will get your scoot purring again for sure.
-fuel pump new
-injector new
-sparkplug new

Did you do it by yourself or somebody else? If you didn't, check everything from beginning.

It ran after completion for a while.
Then you put seat and storage on?
Tried to start, nothing..!

Please take your seat and helmet-storage off again and check all cabling down there.
Take off your ignition cable plus relay..and fix again your plug connector.
Have US-LIKE-models a kill switch?
EU models don't. At least the older ones do  not.
l assume there is enough fuel in it.
Let us know what you did...
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

Yes after I installed the fuel pump everything ran fine started right up, I then put the seat back on and all it does now is the fuel pump runs for 10 seconds stops for half a second then runs again for 10 second and the same over and over and over. I’ll check the starter relay when I get home and see what I can come up with.

Whiskers - I'm assuming that you did not let it run a long time after installing the fuel pump?
Is it possible that now - after that run - something has flowed through the fuel line - and is now blocking your injector from a good - fine-mist spray? I swear - unless you bumped something important, or squished the fuel line, or the tank breather tube - putting on the seat should have not have prevented restarts.!

So - I'm thinking - hate to say it - look for a clogged injector.
Honestly - if it were mine - I'd go there first rather than looking for a electrical problem - because you had it running!

Hello all, first let me say thank you for all your help over the last 2 years while I have been trying to get this thing running, so at the end I added a new fuel injector, oem fuel pump assembly, burnt up the starter so a new starter, finally last week got it running then put the seat on amd it would no longer run.
SOOOOOOOO I am now happy to say that the scoot is running amd purring like a kitten, after two long years, the final problem just so everyone knows, and several of you asked this and I was sure that it was not this problem, amd the final fix!!!! Drum roll please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Had the switch in the off position!!!! OMG, yes I feel like an idiot, I was out there last Wednesday checking to make sure fuel was coming out and my wife said, hey you do know that the switch is in the off position right? I said no, that’s the on position, she switched it and the damn thing started eight up.
THANK YOU ALL, now I will go bury my head in the bowels of shame!!
Bahahahaha

And no the switch was not in the off position the whole time just FYI

@whiskers626,
thats great news, like l said at the beginning, we will (in a common effort) make your scoot purring again. Thank you for sharing the remedy. Ok, your wife solved it, but this is even better.
Congrats from Italy and many happy hours on your ride.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

Oh, man! Been there, done that. Always said that switch needed to kill the starter, too! Well, it SHOULD!
Thank you for the final report! You know your wife is NEVER gonna forget this, don't you? Har, har!
OK, next thing we want to hear outta you is a RIDE REPORT!

I read your post out loud just now - and from the kitchen came a scream from my daughter, "Yeah - March is Women's Month, baby!!"
A bunch of high-5ing going on out there with the women.

OK - let's just keep this between us.
As I said - we've all done it. like when toweling off after a rain ride.
But the best part is is that you came back and told us!

You're quite a guy!

Congrats to you both!
