Fully Vaccinated~! Now what?

Working in the nursing Industry at A retirement home I was one of the first people to get the shot. First one was ok but the second one made me feel AWFUL, it almost felt like a freight train hit me. Had a fever of 102, Headache, chills and stomach ache.

I had the Moderna. Both injections.
Sore arm after the first (no worse than the 2 Shingrix, for shingles) - sore arm after the 2nd.
Next day, after the 2nd,  I took a nice afternoon nap after my sunrise scooter ride.
I blamed that on the Moderna - but my daughter pointed out that many guys my age take afternoon naps.....which I thought was unkind

IMHO - any vaccine side effects are better than taking that last gasp in ICU - without the shot.

I agree, Stig.  Get the damn vaccine, regardless of the manufacturer!  I was asking about if he got the Moderna vaccine because two of my friends - one male, one female, both spiked temps and felt lousy after their second Moderna shot.  I had the Pfizer vaccine, and with both doses, I had a bit of a sore arm, and felt tired.  That was it.

Very good news around here - actual sign-ups for the vaccines for ALL ages are rolling out within weeks, not months!
The governor announced that all Ohioans 16 and older may sign up for the injections starting March 29th.
That sounded almost too good to be true - but when my youngest daughter used the county website that I'd used - she got an appointment scheduled to get her vaccination from the county health dept. at 1:30pm on April 1st!!
I have 3 adults in the family who are refusing to get vaccinated. Their concerns are the often stated. Nothing new - except in differing blends.
Not wishing to be controversial here - but it is a familly fact that these 3 are famous for holding many, many conspiracy theories. ....and for years....so, being anti-vaxers is no surprise to anyone.
When we are all vaxed -- we will be asking those not - to wear masks in our presence, and we will do the same.

The supply of vaccine and rate of vaccinations is speeding up country wide.  I'm in the 55-65 age group and I was able to sign.  I expect to get my first shot in April or May at the latest.

Next Monday - 3/29 - Ohio goes to "all adults" (anyone 16 and above).  Not sure if the state really has reached that point since we're always hearing on the news that older (70+) adults, frontline workers, healthcare workers, teachers, etc., are still having problems getting their shots.

Many folks who actually are age-qualified to get an appointment to get vaccinated here in Ohio are dragging their feet - for whatever reason, and/or they are not adept at figuring out the appointment system.
It's no more complicated than phoning the county health department. Rides can be, and are being arranged for those who need them.

Meanwhile - vaccines are available here and more are coming - so give them to any adult who steps forward.
The quicker we can get even the flat-earth & conspiracy groups of anti-vaxers vaccinated, the quicker we can get the economy up and running again.

Kansas just lifted the mask mandate today. Private business can still require them. I beleive we are reaching herd immunity.  Will still get my shot when available.

Per CDC and NIH guidelines, herd immunity will not be reached until at least 80% of the total population has been vaccinated.  We are a long ways off from that.  I have received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine, and am well past the two week immunity build-up period.  However, I will still wear a mask, and do all the other recommended protocols, not so much for my safety, but to make sure I don't pass COVID to others, should I come into contact with an infected person.

Stig - up here in NE Ohio, we're still having some problems with vaccine serum distribution.  People are getting appointments, but those appointments are now going into late April or May.

If you listen to some leading scientist the stated they vastly  underestimated the number infected and expect herd immunity this spring.  A huge percentage of the population had mild or no symptoms at all so we're never  included in the figures.  When I had it 3 days of not being able to keep any food down followed by two weeks of extreme fatigue.   I had it very early when a good friends son came back from Seattle  (epicenter ) and gave it to his mom.  They came over for a supper bowl party and gave it to me.  I know a lot of people who showed no signs at all.  And know two elderly people who passed from covid.  I still were a mask and social distance for others and will be vaccinated when available,  just like I get a flu shot every year.

Ohio legislature just voted (again) that politicians, not the state's health experts, will be deciding what is best for us.
They cite as reasons : the economic impact of restrictions; protecting that small % of stupid & selfish American's right to be stupid & selfish.

This doesn't prevent you from wearing a mask and taking precautions to protect yourself.  We're fortunate our governor uses the state health guidelines to make decesion.  At the peak Nov 23 2020 we had a  day of 7301 people infected with a weekly avg of 2876 per day.  As of yesterday we dropped to 546 yesterday  with a weekly avg of 207 per day.  Meeting the guidelines to remove the mask mandate.

Like I said earlier this does not prevent business from requiring them or from you taking percautions to protect yourself.
