Highly sophisticated LIKE seat release latch
« on: March 12, 2021, 04:39:25 PM »
Dear LIKE riders,
as a fulltime houseman or "casalingo" as we say here, it's sometimes pretty hard to get some spare time to work on your scoot.
But thinking over an emergency (broken seat release cable) an pretty inexpensive backup came in my mind, (pls see pics).

And it works, even at a gas station without emergency
I went the cheap way, took a meterpiece of 2mm stiff cord which l use to tackle ropes on the boat and a little plastic cover which l found close to my trash can.

Of course people with some money left in this crisis would maybe take some silver or gold tread and a nugget in front as a release pull.
But....😉
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

that's very smart to have a hidden 'emergency' seat release!

Upon looking closely at your photos - Ruffus, your string pull will not work with a broken or displaced cable, will it?

Your string mechanism will work if you've lost the key, or left it under the seat, because your string is attached to a WORKING cable - not a broken one.
For those who don't understand - the mechanism we're looking at is the key-lock/cable-connection, with the cable leading back to the latch under the rear of the seat. This trick relies on the cable being unbroken, and cable-ends being fully attached at both ends.

Often - an emergency seat latch device is attached close to the closing jaws on the latch itself, or to the jaws themselves - and works to open the seat even if the cable is broken, frozen or displaced - or if the key is lost or not working.

But this string will open the seat - if the cable is good. I do not think Ruffus meant for this project to be taken as a fix for a broken cable.

@Stig, no you got it wrong. This string works on the lever and opens on all cases (broken cable, rotten lock, lost key, broken key)

OK You're pulling the cable at the key/lock.
Don't see how it opens if that black cable is broken between the key-lock and the rear latch.

But if it does...good to know.
