People 50 - CDI restricted?
« on: October 18, 2010, 02:29:52 AM »
Hi!  I have a 2009 People 50 and I'm trying to figure out if the CDI is actually derestricted.

When I pull the green wire out of the CDI the scooter won't start.  There's no other disconnected green wires laying around and there's only one green wire in the CDI.

Any ideas?

Welcome. 2 stroke or 4 stroke? Have you derestricted the boss drive in the CVT yet? If you can't get much more than 30mph then the CVT is restricted. Do that first. Then it seems the only way to tell is to run it wide open down a nice long hill and if you can hit 50mph, or close to it, without it cutting out you are derestricted(except that stock exhaust). My 09 had a green wire with a bullet type connector I unplugged right after I got it. I don't know if that did anything or not. I know it never cuts out though(52-53mph top speed downhill indicated).

It's a 2 stroke.  The boss is derestricted.  I can't go more than 45 on a downhill, no matter how I try.  I can't hit more than 35 if I'm lucky going uphill and I'm only 145lbs.

I have a friend with a brand new People 50, derestricted by the dealer, and he leaves me in his dust both up and down hill.

Yep sure does

Maybe 55mph I don't know Im guessing cause the speedo(numbers) stop at 50. Really I didn't gain much downhill speed. Flat ground and up hill is much better though.

..maybe, but it seems that the pre 2005 ppls have a virtually unrestricted exhaust...

Yeah, I kinda figured that.  So what's up with the green wire?  It won't start if I disconnect it, so what else can I do?

I bought it used, but the CDI is definitely stock.  I checked the part number (30400-KFA6-9000) with the parts manual.

I'm googling that part # like crazy, exrae. Not finding anything about derestricting it, though. It does look like that CDI is used in ATVs and other scoots, though, so there should be some information about it somewhere.

Googling the People 50 CDI derestriction brought up this, though. It lists earlier years and gives a Kymco technical phone number to call with questions.
