Screw Search
« on: March 19, 2021, 02:06:44 AM »
Do you lovely people think you can help me identify which kind of screw is used to hold the battery in place on my KYMCO Downton 300i? I got it used and it only came with 2, and then I dropped 1 while outside so I need to purchase some more. Any and all help would be appreciated!

The battery holder uses a generic speed nut and screw, you can replace it with a speednut that fits.

Maybe take the remaining one to an automotive or motorcycle shop as a pattern to source a replacement?  (Mind you, I’d probably start with a search on eBay!)

My two DT300i's and the previous Yager 200i all used a metric machine screw with either an 8 or 10 mm hex head and a captive washer. Lowe's, O'reilly's, Advantage Auto have all kinds of metrics but probably not captive washers. Already suggested by Neil to take the orphan to one or all of these places and get four the same. Now, you can get fancy and make your own captive washers if you want. Just say the word and I'll tell you how.

I seriously doubt any remaining dealer is gonna have these but you might get lucky....

I took the screws down to two Autozone's, but no luck so far. The Downtown is my only transpo and ubers are expenzive and hard to come by in my area so I was hoping I could find the info online instead, haha. I suppose on my next day off I'll journey around and try to find a place to ask.

Lowe's and Home Depot have drawers full of weird hardware.......

Who’d have thought something so simple would prove such a ball ache?

Especially for guys like me who want to preserve the original! Most of the fasteners on Kymcos are unobtainium!

@CROSSBOLT,
I love this word "unobtainium".
