I have a 2016 Super 8 50cc, which I think was the first year of this newest design. I weigh 220lbs. When new, I could get to about 24mph. I did 4 things and now easily get to 32-33 on a flat road... slight downhill up to 35mph.
- On the CDI, pulled out one of the purple/red wires and cover end with electric tape (I can re-insert if needed)
- I bought an unrestricted (no collar) variator boss and had the scooter shop install it
- I only use Mobil 1 5W-30 synthetic oil and Mobil 1 85W-90 gear oil, which I install myself annually
- I disassembled the intake manifold to the carb and removed a washer jammed in there that restricts air flow
I've considered other mods but I know every next mod tends to throw something else out of whack... endless cycle.
I have taught myself how to do valve adjustments, replaced spark plugs and adjust the idle.
When cold/cool, my throttle will bog down (cut out) under quick acceleration... which diminishes the warmer the engine gets and the warmer the air temperature gets. If the temp is only is the 60's it will take a mile or two to have that bogging issue all but disappear... the warmer the air, the quicker the issue goes away. I think I have about 3400 miles currently on the scooter. I got the scooter for my son, but he is now in college and did not take it with him, so it has become my project to maintain it and take it for 20 minute joy rides now and again. It once had gas in it for 2 years and had been nearly a year since started... I had to empty the tank, and give it fresh gas with some Sea Foam... it took about 20 minutes trying to start it with a few battery re-charges, but finally got it going. I think now it is running as good as it ever has. Don't leave gas in it over the winter.
The Super 8 is a good looking scooter, but it is a bit heavy, which I think makes it slightly slower than the Agility. Good luck sorting it all out.
