1000 mi service
« on: October 19, 2010, 12:40:53 AM »
hi, did it today . took off 4 parts - seat, trunk, front cover and valve cover. both valves a ok . warmed up engine and changed oil and filter, used 10-40 mobil 1 oil. no i didnt even check that oil strainer ,what for ? now its wide open time maybe i'll try that 9000 rpm, at my weight i'll need a slight downhill helper. i also installed a small windshield , got a 18 x 24 sheet of lexan. took off joke shield and made my own. could of made it a little larger but it keeps wind off the body and deflects wind over my head . lexan cost 18.80 at lowe's,not very thick maybe 1/8 in ,but it seems ok.

It's okay, ike. I'm amazed that you can make one like that. Good job!

Iker, I know it is an old post but I would like to know how your windshield is working out.  I am considering making my own and I'd like to know how high it is and how high you think it should be.  Also, how is it at high speed, is it secure or shaky.  I would hate to have it hit me in the face at 65 mph.  lol
Thanks,
Rich L.

HI RICH, sorry its taking so long to answer. i removed the homemade screen and installed a slipstreamer route 66 screen. they are in the parts unlimited cat. price is about $90. i left stock screen on. add on installes on the mirrors . so it is closer to the rider and comes up too the nose level . when turning full lock left or right add on rubs on the stock screen , but not a real problem , a little triming would help . hope this helps . see yea ,ike  ps. screen is 20in wide and 16in high. doesnt seem to bother handing at speed (65 mph) wind deflects off stock screen and on to add on all good . i read someone got a givi screen , but i cant find any so far.
