tires
« on: April 10, 2021, 11:32:50 PM »
I've got about 200 miles now on my 2020 like 200i. love the scooter but I think my tires are shaking. I'm going to give it some time, I know they are nylon but my wife's Vespa 150 with the Michelins don't do that. other than that, no complaints. runs up to 45 mph pretty quick and brakes are good also. anybody have any comments?

@scooter freak,
there's a lot of people who simply condem Kymcos OE tires. Some even consider them dangerous. It's been written a lot about, just check search "tires".
Also balancing is a great chapter, but small wheels find any small irregularity on the street.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

I had Kenda’s fitted to my X-Town 300 and lasted just under 2,000 miles before binning them in favour of Michelin City Grip 2’s. Never regretted it as handling and confidence transformed.

I'm guessing that the 'ride' is better on a newer Vespa than it is on a newer LIKE200i.
'Shakes' may not all be down to the tires?

Because I was going to use my new 2013 LIKE200iLX for 365 work commuting in Ohio - at @450 miles I paid the dealer to swap out the Kendas for a set of Michelin City Grips. Tires and installation was @$245.
They lasted for years, and performed well in all types of weather.

Some balance beads into your Kendas might rid them of the shakes? (they go in through the tire-valve stem)

If you are not a "sporty" rider who loves to scrape things and run your LIKE at top speed - and do not ride in the wet - the Kendas are probably A-OK.....but you won't be disappointed with a set of Michelins either :)

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I'm thinking that this winter some new city grips are going to be installed. and yes, by the way, I  think the Vespa does ride better but I defend the Kymco's price point and quality. remember, the Vespa is twice as much.
I think that for the money a Kymco is a great scoot

The motor itself does not smooth out until the first 1k miles. The ride does not compare to the Vespa with any tire.  The Kendas are generally ok, but I have read of a few bad tires on this forum.

Even I had the Kendas swapped out, and I'm famously a cheapskate!
