Roller Derby
« on: October 19, 2010, 10:08:27 PM »
So I've decided to change the roller weights on the scoot while the temperatures are still conducive to working outdoors without freezing a finger off.  What can I say, I'm not allowed to do tuning in my living room!

I want to go with lighter weights since I do lots of stop and go driving and would like a little more oomph off the line.  I seem to recall that the stock weights are 6.5 gm - but am not completely sure.

Any suggestions on how light I should go with my derestricted by otherwise stock scoot?  I was thinking maybe 5.5 or 6.0.

One other question, if I have 5 gm and 6 gm roller weights, can I alternate them so I have 3 of each and get the desired 5.5 gm effect?

Or am I barking mad here?

bark  bark-------I would suggest going with 5.5 and keep the same weight all the way a round.

Yeah, I am going unconventional here.

I only have 5 gm and 6 gm weights - hate to go buy more.

Somebody here just got some weights not too long ago. I'm thinking it was pedro. Not sure how much he paid for them, though, because I have no memory. lol

Yes, you are correct - I remember that!

I also remember that Pedro put up the link to the seller so I'm checking that out now.

Thanks Pedro!

The only issue is I think I need the 5.5 gm rollers.  If we can do the mix and match thing (alternating the 5 gm and 6 gm rollers) this would work.

They're a really good price for 3 sets and includes shipping too.

Where is Word at tonight  :-\

I'd run 3x 5grams and 3x 6grams.  I tired various combinations when I was dialing in my variator last weekend.  Including mixing weights.

That was my thought as well.

I've read various things about mixing variator weights, but it seems like it shouldn't be a problem as long as you alternate the 2 weights.

Thats  exactly what I did.  I only put 5-6 miles on each different set of rollers before pulling it all apart and swapping in a different set.  I didn't notice any downside to running mixed weight sets.  I did place them inside the variator in alternating weights.

Over time they will wear unevenly and can stress out your veriator, but works fine for tuneing.

Thats good to know.  Thanks Art.  Thankfully I was able to settle on all 6 weights being 7 grams.  I'll remember that in the future though.   ;)

...art is exactly right...

..don't mix roller weights for the long haul..

 ;)

..i ran my a50 with 4.7 gram rollers and blew the fairings off most anything i came across...

..excellent take-off, and the top speed...well...that'sa whole nuther story...ya'll have already read..

..however, in addition with the rollers i did have malossi variator, a K&N filter, modified oem exhaust and around a 1.01mm main jet..1000 torque drive spring and 1000 fly clutch springs...

..5 or 5.5 gram rollers will do you great without all the other stuff...
..every mod (action) necessitates a (reaction) mod..
