Overfilled the Oil

Has anyone ever overfilled the motor oil  (and is brave enough to admit it)?  Would like to hear about the consequences, such as leaking oil, where it leaked from, and how you fixed it.

I put in 3-4 oz too much and now it leaks bad.  Oil is splattered everywhere so it's impossible to tell where it came from.  Guessing the valve cover gasket is a prime suspect, although it is a sturdy piece of silicon with no obvious damage.

Scoot runs fine, but can't go far as the oil gets low after 10 miles or so.
Oil came spitting out of the vent near the valves, getting on the floorboard.  Some oil on the valve cover, but the valves themselves look pretty clean.

Air filter got a bit of oil on it.

Sure, I've overfilled a couple of times,  which is a pain when I see it on the dipstick.
Because now I have to suck some out to get it down to the proper mark on the stick.
Guess you'll have to wipe it down good enough to see where it is leaking when running.

I don't know if I could even overfill mine by very much. When it's full it's very close to the top of the fill hole. Interesting that yours was puking the excess oil. I think of overfilled engines as having the crank foam the oil making it harder for the pump to pick up ( car engines)..not puking it out of every opening.

It puked out way more than the excess  (closer to ¾ quart), so it must have caused a gasket or seal to fail?
Had no idea a couple ounces overfill could cause such a problem.

It's tough to follow your details, mostly because I don't understand what mchine is involved.  Usually an overfill is fixed by siphoning off the extra.  The average scooter may run on 1, or at most 2, litres, so there's not a lot of extra oil to remove.

 I guess this happened to your LANCE 200, in my motorunderstanding, oil vapor is to be blown out via this hose which leads from your valve cover to the airfilter box, therefrom your filter is oily too.

But this amount I see on this pics and you describe comes most likely from a broken gasket or blown up or clogged exhaust hose.
There might be not other way to locate the source, to take off as much as possible of the plastic parts, put the valve cover back on, steamwash the unit
and then look it up during idle.
Your floorboard ist spilled be airwash from fan and suction during driving trough the vent openings.
Would be really interesting to find out....

Over fill....simple drain off the extra with drain plug.  Messy but works.

No good in this case though John as the engine has been run!  You’re right that an ounce of prevention...

Never over filled a scooter/bike but have a small inverter generator.  Called customer service when it wouldn't run and they instructed me to drain the oil and fill with the correct amount.  Fired up first pull after that.
