2021 X-Town 300i passenger riding
« on: May 03, 2021, 03:12:24 AM »
Hi All,
I've been watching the used market like a hawk around here, but used scooters are few and far between.
I'm considering buying a new X-Town to replace my Ctx700n, but I'm concerned about its highway speed and its ability to carry passengers.
Can anyone shed some light on how the X-Town 300i handles passengers? My girlfriend and I are 400lbs combined.

I've also seen some conflicting information about top speeds online. I saw one video where the top speed was 120kmh, and others showing higher.

I can only speak for the Dt300i as I have owned one so I will tell you this.

The X-town is not a true 300cc, it is in fact a down-specced DT300i with a smaller 276cc engine and 24 hp vs 30 hp. Considering how my DT300i was good enough for a single rider on a freeway, I would not recommend the X-town for regular highway riding. I mean it could easily hold 120km/h with a single person @7000 rpm. Add a second person and it will struggle much more.

First load limits should be looked at----at 400 lbs plus stuff you are carrying in the storage area/accessories you would be at end limits for bike.  XTown is stretched 250----I have 2019 XTown 300 i, 13,000 miles, solo....fine in that use.  Two up you need bigger/more powerful bike/scooter for highway.

The only scooter in this range which has a designed load capacity of a tick over 400lbs in the Suzuki Burgman 400.
Yeah - regular onboard riding with 400lbs is too much for the important bits of a 300 (brakes, frame, suspension, tires).

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Pretty much all said here.  My X-Town 300 (2019) is fine for occasional 2-up work, but I wouldn’t go touring on it with a pillion.  My wife & I probably tip the scales at roughly 380 lbs. At that loading things like braking and cornering need planning a bit more carefully than when riding solo.

I got 2021 300i. My wife and I are big (around 530 combined big) and it handles a lot better on highway when we both are riding because the wind doesn't push that much as when I'm riding solo. But as someone else here mentioned, cornering and breaking takes a little more effort.

As far as speed goes; cluster says 110mph but max for me riding solo has been 85-90mph and with the wife I've taken it up to 65-70mph comfortably without going full throttle.

It's a great bike and it handles pretty good, but if you're looking for something better in the Kymco family I would suggest the Ak550. Look it up, it's a whole different beast!

You and your passenger are fully 100+ lbs over the manufacturer's safe load capacity for that scooter. Please confirm this with KYMCOUSA, or your dealer. The tire load rating is only a part of the figure which you need to be aware of - look at the max figure (GVW)  on the sticker and subtract the scooter's wet weight - what is left is your designed load capacity. It is certainly less than 400 lbs.

Thankyou???
I'm sorry, but this is something your salesperson should have discussed with you when you were shopping scooters.
I'm no small dude - at 6'3" and 275lbs...and if I were contemplating the purchase of a scooter for two-up riding I would hope the salesperson would give me a proper caution when required.
Even fairly large scooters have a modest carrying capacity.....which has little to do with "will it move me down the road".  A HONDA 90 will move a family down the road....
Is it possible to consider a scooter for each of you?
Stig

Should have a tag or sticker on the scooter with maximum load . My Kymco states max weight rating of 330 pounds.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.
