LIKE 200i CEL permanent ON, cure
« on: June 05, 2021, 09:41:42 PM »
Dear LIKE addicts,
a couple of days ago my LX, MY 2013, decided for what reasons ever, to have its CEL all the time (motor running) on.
Addionally failure code 6 (six) and 33 ( thirtythree) showed up.
Prior to that I did a thorougly cleaning of its injection system. So, the barb must be there somewhere.
Took everything apart again....
-checked injector
-injector cables
-wiggled during idle- no change on idle
-followed cables, none broken
-disconnected battery
-tried to erase failure code (10 sec method)
-put pink cable on minus
-starts and runs normal
-only a little bit of surging on idle
...nothing, still CEL on all the time and code 6 and 33.
Okay, once again all connections off...
Then, HEUREKA, when I sprayed the big square plug which connects with TPS and our scoots electronic brain, with contact cleaner, and reconnected it, no CEL anymore during running.
(pls see pic)

Next step was to erase failure codes, one by one.
Last move was to reset TPS by touching (ignition on) the PINK cable in our battery compartement with a short piece of wire to the batterys GREEN (minus) pole.

Resume for me and maybe helps somebody else too:
-after disconnecting that big plug, flush with contact cleaner and be sure it's 100% all the way in
-opening the injector and cleaning is not a big deal but has to be done with great care and lots of liquid (petroleum, diesel, injector cleaner) to avoid any drying of this tiny piston.
No CEL and codes for now and runs like a champ.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

Cool fix Ruffus !
BTW what is 6 and 33?
I wipe things clean under the seat - but always a little leary of upsetting the EFI Fairies by spraying anything down there😊

@Stig,
-FC  6 = faulty TPs
-FC33 = faulty injector etc. Our scoots are fortunately comparingly simple creations and easy to diagnose.
Well, having been an industrial developement engineer for 40+ years I'm not really impressed by any technical challenge. And flooding connectors with the RIGHT liquid .... what can happen, just retrace your steps,  analyze last correction, here we go.
BTW fairies, last time I met Harry Potter he gave me some magic powder against muggles, motor xinxes and that kind of folks. Copied even this failure code page for me.Really nice guy.

THIS IS INTERESTING,  Ruffus
Because my cyclepedia manual has no 33 code listing, whatsoever.
The codes go up to 25, only.

And code 6 is

10 is injector issue.
3,4 & 5 involve the TPS.

So, what do you think is going on with our manuals?
I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I've never had a code -- that I am aware of. (although, thanks to a loan from crossbolts, I have had a KYMCO diagnostic tool plugged in to my scooter about 7 years ago which proved that the TPS was failing. Kymco put in a new throttle-body assembly free, under warranty.)

This sort of diagnostic confusion is the end for motorcycles.  I'm still riding my 12-yr old carbureted Kymco, but no way would I be buying one of these fuel-injected nightmares!  I've watched my friends struggle with these machines, and I can see the writing on the wall!

@JJJoseph, yes, you are absolutely right about in a way. Emission and environment pressures forces developer to find a way around for their prototypes to get them through legal approve.
What the customer gets, is a different story.

@Stig, I found this FC list at a german scooter forum.
Sometimes manuals differ a little bit from continent to continent.
But, since I caused the appearance of my FCs, I'm pretty confident that our Kymcos are good for many years and kms/miles. Both of my LIKEs have around 50.000 kms on the clock and running fine. So, if you compare  price and what you get for....particularely here in Italy, where a 10 yr old Like costs around  €500-700,-. With this price is still headroom to invest a little AND whats more important having fun with tinkering. If one sells after refurbishing for the same price, okay, "what shalls". I had fun.

@ CROSSBOLT,
would you be so kind and give me some details about your diagnostic tool? This three pronged connector plug, which one?
I'm on to built one on OBD II base. TIA

Have no idea where to get that 3-prong connector or its mate if I understand your question correctly.

The best description of "the Kymco Analyzer" is in the service manuals for each EFI model. The only benefit is it is quicker to erase codes and reset the ECU. It makes testing TPS way easier!

I was going to use wire probes to connect the OBD II if ever getting around to it...

@CROSSBOLT, txs for your answer.
I thought you do have an digital analyzing tool at hand.
Like I said, I'm on to mesh one together from an OBD II tester and matching cables. Wire probing is a good approach, but I want to make it plug and play. If it works I will write about.

I DO have one close at hand! I have misunderstood your quesrion or statement. Do you mean which of the three wires do what function? There is plus, minus(ground) and data. Now, which is which will take a bit longer since I will have to get off my arse, gather a meter and go to the shelter where the bike is.

@CROSSBOLT, txs for efforts.
Yes, this is what I meant. Which pin (pls see pic) from diagnose plug connects with which one  on your diagnose tool.
And maybe brand and model you using.

Name and brand model is Kymco Analyzer Tool! The rest of the info will take a while since today is our 30th anniversary...

In your picture left is green (ground), right is black (+12 volts) and center is white (data). Verify with your voltmeter the position of green and black just to be sure. You know how old guys are! Har, har!
