People 150 Axle Nut

Just changed my gear oil, and went around the block to check the work. When I pulled back in my driveway, I saw a piece of hardware that I hadn’t seen before. Turns out it was my axle nut, and when I parked the bike the axle had just slipped out of the arm!
Don’t need to tell you how terrifying it was to know that a longer ride might have resulted in one I did not return from. It seems that either the axle or nut might’ve cross threaded as well. As I recover and start to put this back together, what should I be looking for/aware of, and where can I find resources to make this safe again?

@Shumbody,  welcome to the forum.
Are we talking about this nut (pls see pic)?
-If is this the case, it might be necessary to remove the wheel and check whether one or both threads have suffered.
-only putting back the axle nut without being sure its unharmed or not, I consider too risky
-the nut is not a very hard metal
-axle material in comparison is hardened/nitrated
-so it's more likely that, your nut has lost its thread, means you need a new nut.
This nut is not to get at hardware store, but ordered from a Kymco dealer of your choice.
Check all this out and ask here again, if something seems to be unclear.

If you can't find a genuine Kymco nut, these nuts are standard across many other makes and models.  Check with your local Honda or Yamaha parts people if that's the case.

Watched a youtube where a rider on a vintage Vespa filmed his ride while his rear axle let go.
He went down, then bounced onto a sidewalk. No one was behind him, fortunately.

@Shumbody, when you found this axle nut, please, even you're anxious to ride off, take your time to check axles thread. There must have been a reason WHY this nut fell off.
-sloppy tightening
-bearing worn out
-overtighened
-wrong nut at all mounted
-distance spacer (if standard on this model) missing
