One Angel installed today on my Liberty
« on: June 09, 2021, 12:14:01 AM »
Removing fork, exhaust & wheel nut were straightforward.
The inner fender must be removed to get the wheel off of the axel. Four fasteners - buried.
THAT was a bear - much more involved than finding & removing the fender fasteners on my LIKE200i!

Started at 8AM, finished cleaning up at 2PM.....subtracting 1 hour for driving to the  Kymco dealer to have tires swapped and new valve stem installed. ($40)
Temps were 80's but humidify was wicked high. I was leaking like a.......
Dealer took me right in, did a good job and I tipped the guy $10 for his careful work with my rim (plus I'm coming back with the front wheel soon!)
Old gent rolled in with a new 300 Yamaha scooter for 4,000 mile service. His buddy kept him upright when he heard 3 days & $372.

Anyway - I hope these tires last a  l o n g  time----I ain't looking forward to fooling with that fender again!

Lots of Torx fasteners on this scooter. BTW - the official Piaggio download service manual is useless for 'simple' stuff like wheel removal :) Engine rebuilds very detailed......

If I was smart - would have done this last October!
Have coffee, take lots of breaks.
But nooooo....

I kept putting it off.
Had a fan blowing on me....daughter came out to check on me twice. Wife phoned twice to check on me.....
I John Wayned them all.

Stig your a tougher man then I . I disdain sweat pouring in my eyes when I'm trying to work on something.  Every building on my property is climate controlled except my old garage which if lumber drops below the price of gold will be replaced.  When built it will have a large window A/C unit and a motorcycle lift.  My old back and knees ain't* what they use to be.

* I struggled with using ain't when taught it wasn't a word it just rolled off the tongue better in the old cliché then aren't.  ::)

Four essential tools for scooter working.....

Fan
Goose neck desk lamp
Kitchen chair
1" thick black dense foam exercise mat 2'x6' (cute leggings-clad young sales ladies at Dick's thought I was heading home to knock out a couple 100 sit-ups. Can you imagine??! :)

Kitchen chair ain't for sittin' - it's to help me get up and down.

I always warn the family that I may be slipping in and out of French if things aren't going to spec.....so, avoid the garage.

Oh - and this morning I found the nice clear photos of the 4 fender fasteners in my Piaggio download. I should have looked under "mud guard", not fender.

Apologies to the Eye-talians.

@Stig, glad to see you survived this chore.
The whole thing might be a PITA, but this slip on muffler makes good for the mud guard.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

Yes - and it even went right back on without destroying the new gasket!
I imagine other owners taking a Dremel and cutting the offending corner of that fender away!
Sadly, I've no Dremel!

Well might have been too quick with my praise.

Just had to make a run to the auto parts store to buy an 18MM socket to remove the front axle nut.
I've been wrenching on metric autos and 2-wheelers for 50+ years - and never have needed an 18MM tool.

Thanks for that, Piaggio!

Yeah, this guys are tricky. So, everyone makes a little bit of business. I would simply change this nut to 17 or 19mm. But....

I've had to make tool runs more then once on the BMW motorcycle.  The only thing it seems to be lacking is the directional screws they put bathroom stalls together with so they can't be removed.

KK, you’re a man after my own heart. I have some real grammatical and spelling bugbears too.  Their, there and they’re always wind me up when transposed and do not start me on split infinitives - I know they’re deemed acceptable these days, but I still cannot bear to boldly go there!
Regards & ride safe,
Neil
