2007 Super9 AC running weak
« on: October 22, 2010, 01:50:06 AM »
I have a 2007 Kymco Super9 2T AC 50cc 2 stroke scooter and I am
haveing trouble getting it to run right, I bought it from the original
owner and it was not running right when I bought it, it was running
weak and had low exhaust presure so I thought the pipe was stopped up so I put a new leo vince pipe on it and that did not fix it so I ran
the compression on it and it only had 80lbs on it so I took it apart
and it had a broke and missing ring in it so I bought an airsal 47.6mm
bigbore kit for it and it is still running weak so I have checked the
carb and it was clean and look like new then I changed the cdi box the
coil and the stator and flywheel and there is still no change in it, I
have also checked the plug and it looks good and it has 145lbs
compression, I also put a set of 5.7 rollers in the variator and it
was already derestricted and the belt and clutch and variator all look
good, the only way I know how to discribe how it is running is like
one of those cheap 4 stroke chinesse scooters, it does not have the
quick snap like most 2 strokes and it will only run about 10mph up hill and about 30mph downhill, I have 2 of these scooters and I
changed to parts off the other one to test with, does the scooter have
any other electrical parts that could cause it to run weakly and do
you have any other suggestions .
THANKS ALOT KINGONWHEELS

i dont have a s9 but if you have done ALL THAT, have you checked your torque driver??...i overlooked mine too, alot better now(check thread)... it sounds like the cvt, buuuut you said you checked everything... i would then go to the cdi. maybe its shorting out and causing your dilemma.. check both of those items

Thanks for the reply, I am new to the forum and I am just learning how it works, I am not sure what a torque driver is but all the variator parts are working like normal and the clutch seems to be working like it should and I ran the cdi box off of it on the other super9 I have without any problems and use the other cdi box on this one and it still ran weak , even on the center stand it still does not have that quick 2stroke snap to it , this thing is about to make me pull my hair out and I dont have alot left HA! HA! .
THANKS ALOT

And you're certain, KINGONWHEELS, that the variator and CDI have already been derestricted? You may have already double checked. Just checking to make sure someone didn't tell you wrong info when you bought it...

I checked it all out myself, I tryed 3 different cdi boxes on it, the stock one and a cpi unrestricted and a gy6 unrestricted and I ran all 3 on my other super9 and they run out great, I also pulled the variator out and put 5.7 gram rollers in it and the boss drive had already been machined down and derestricted, today I pulled the motor out of it and put it in my other super9 to be sure that there was not something wrong with the wiring and it still ran the same, everything I have tryed so far has not made no difference in it.
THANKS

Hi, KINGONWHEELS, yeah, I figured you already checked it all out, was just hoping for an easy fix for ya. Don't know if you have a manual yet, but I saw this one. It may have some troubleshooting info in it. Hope you get it figured out.

Thanks for the help, this thing is really getting on my nerves, I thought about rolling it out in the yard and setting fire to it, I am beginning to think that this could be one of them things that cannot be fixed, I emailed kymco tech support  direct and told them what was going on with it and what all I had done to it and all they could tell me was I need to take it to a kymco dealer to get it fixed HA! HA! like I wanted to spend a fortune to get it fixed  , thanks for the manual link and any other suggestions would be great,

I am thinking about just buying a new scooter instead of sinking alot more money in this thing, any suggestion on what kind of 2stroke scooter would be a good buy.

THANKS ALOT

NO...don't set fire to it!!! LOL. I've been wanting a Super 9 for a long time. haha It can probably be fixed if the cause can be diagnosed, though.

Well, I'd expect the People would be the closest to what you've got.

I did not change the jetting in the carb, the papers that came with the kit said it would run fine with the stock carb and air box and stock pipe but I have a leo vince pipe on it, I did check the plug several times to be sure the jetting was OK and the color on the plug looked good and it is smokeing about right so the jetting cant be off much and not enough to make it run like it is running and I have run bigbores in the past on other scooters and most richen the mixure and you can run a clamp on filter without rejetting but with the air box removed on this one it want windup but about half throttle, same on both my super9s,

Maybe I sould strap a 5hp briggs motor on it HA! HA!

THANKS ALOT

I am kind of new here but I have found that isolating problems as much as possible sometimes will help. If you disconnect the belt from the variator or even take the variator off, that would isolate the engine from the drive train. I think at that point I would swap the carb with the proven one. Maybe swap the reeds as well. You probably have already been pre-mixing the gas/oil but doing that would eliminate the oil injection system as a source of trouble. sounds like not enough spark from the coil to the plug (wire?). lights work ok? maybe there is a short to ground somewhere robbing you of voltage. sorry that is all I can offer. hope you get this going.

Have you tried a leak-down pressure test?  If you have an air leak somewhere, it can be difficult to get it to run right.  Check these videos for info:

I wanted to say I really appreciate all the help on getting my scooter going, I have given up on getting this thing to run but I did find a new kymco super9 OEM motor at a good price I bought to put in it and I think that will fix it, thanks again for the help.
THANKS

I found it on ebay for $400 shipped to me, it is a new OEM motor still in the wrapper, it came with the stator and starter, fan shroud, oil pump, intake, differential, brake arm, pivot bearings it was complete except the clutch, variator, belt, starter drive and side cover, I thought that was cheap considering a top end kit is around $200.

what do you think ????????
